As a Car Body repairer I’m familiar with spraying equipment and compressors. When you have a Compressed Air tank you have to have a glass jar or just a valve to release water that builds up in these tanks. If you don’t regularly drain the water it comes out with the CA and mixes with the sprayed paint causing the paint to have tiny ‘bubbles’ of water in what u spray.

Greatly agree on that, a pressure switch for just $5 bucks is available. They come in 90, 110 Psi, 120 and 150 Psi Auto shut-off switch, same as they use in a Mini-compressors on an Air-horn sets. That way, you can leave it on, and it will automatically shut-off at designated Psi pressure.

YES Mr. Moran is totally right. i also worked in pneumatic s for many years. the info i heard was that PVC pipe is very sensitive to pressure shock loads. and then split for LONG lengths. NOT just a small leak like black iron pipe.

This is an accident waiting to happen, PVC pipe is not rated for compressed gasses. If the pipe is struck and ruptures, the shrapnel can be devastating and potentially fatal.

there is pressure rated PVC fyi. look for NSF-PW imprinted on it ( preferably with SCH80 along with it)

The problem is not the lack of pressure rating but rather what happens when the pipe fails. Water is incompressible, so a failure just results in the water flowing out. Air is very compressible, and a failure results in deadly shrapnel flying and high speeds leading to death. Cautionary statements and alerts against the use of rigid PVC/CPVC piping for use with compressed air or gasses are available through the Plastic Pipe Institute(PPI), American Society for Testing(ASTM), various other trade organizations, manufacturers, safety codes, as well as several State and federal Agencies(i.e. OSHA).

For all those trying to convince people that this is so guaranteed to fail, or that it will self destruct after a while, even at low pressure, I spent several seasons at a pear shed, and they used pvc pipe connected to a compressor. It was 1” pipe, 125 psi, and it never failed.

@3:41 i don't understand how the air tight seal for the pressure gauge works. It is ok to use PTFE tape to seal the thread but is a metal nut against a metal washer (directly without rubber) air tight? Why not just use a rubber o ring on the OUTSIDE of the PVC ?

I hope that's schedule 120 at least sch80... As a plumber. Had a call to replace pvc 40 that was used to plumb compressed air through a facility. The pipe ruptured in a room and shrap plastic flew everywhere similar to a grande going off. Luckily nobody was in that room at the time.

You're completely right, I have seen what happens when a pressurized PVC pipe bursts, its not pretty. The average heathen doesn't grasp the difference between water pressure (uncompressed) and air pressure (compressed). This is essentially a shrapnel bomb that he's built out of ignorance. Someone will try it, get hurt and this video will be evidence number one in the court case.

That pvc pipe is called "sanitarian" type pipe in my country (used for drains). If you use hidraulic type pvc pipe (a lot thicker), it can whitsand pressures up to 80 Psi. I am working on finishing one tank with the same compressor used in this video.

+GuardTower In that case, you need to work backwards from your hose connector/coupling fittings. If you're using a 1/4" NPT air fitting on the air brush, then you'll want the thread and pitch to all be 1/4" NPT. If you find that the Air Compressor Pressure Switch Valve uses 1/2" NPT thread, then you'll likely have to get some fittings to suit that, and some 1/2"-to-1/4" NPT reducers to suit your air couplers. The best thing you can do is look up all the parts on eBay, map out what you'll need and the Engish names of the parts, then look for them on something like Alibaba and check for a Philipino translation. Either that, or show your suppliers pictures of the parts and the fitting thread sizes. For instance, this is a pressure switch, and it shows the fittings sizes needed. What kind of glue did you use for the pipe endcaps? I've been trying to make a pressurized PVC tube for tennis balls and need a good glue. I don't think the epoxy that I used was a good choice.

Dont use glue or epoxy. Use real pvc solvent and real pvc cement and follow the instuctions provided.

PVC cannot withstand much pressure, hence a security valve and an electric pressure switch are a must. you should have also wired up the compressor using a relay and a fuse, you don´t want that much of current at the tip of your finger (around 10A)

The gadget was operating in the 3bar region, 3 bars is equivalent to 30 meter high water pressure. I would think it is safe. For spray job, 3 bar is enough. For nail gun job, it will take around 10 bar which I don't think the toy can handle.

Interesting. But see those cheap and nasty £2.99 compressors. A few extra quid and you get one like mine, not overly experience. It was 12 or 15 quid.. it's digital, you can set the cut off pressure. Also, the battery will drain and drain but is brilliant if needing it mobile.. but with a pressure setting it cuts off. Your method just builds and builds. It is a simple and easy set up. I like it for maybe blow downs and silly things. But what would be the expected psi max range on that thing before it blows your face off?
