I did my first gutter cleaning yesterday. I charged $80. I used a Dewalt cordless vacuum for the nasty mud. One of the sections was plugged and had some standing water in it. I couldn't use a blower because most of the fall area was a deck I didn't want to get dirty. I took a heavy-duty contractor's bag up with me and put the heavy stuff in there. I was lucky the pitch wasn't too bad and could work from the roof

Buy a cheap $250 power washer, $90 - extension kit for pressure washing with harness And for $350 you can never climb and clean gutter from ground or first floor roof all day. A clean pressure washed gutter will bring customers back because your not just doing the inside but you can clean the outside of it as well. But as he said always get photos of roof pitch and house. I bid hourly labor and linear foot so they know I gave it honest look. And I note things in my quotes that will be obstacles. Lastly run a 2 small electric fence post....and then caution tape across it where the electric lines are so you don't move a ladder into it. Safety always

Hey, quick question...I see you guys using a leaf blower to clear gutters, do you guys in America use a gutter vac? I see guys using the leaf blower but surely the insurance for climbing/walking on roofs is quite high, maybe using the vac would lower the risk and speed up the process. Many thanks and great channel

How unsafe is it if the ladder with stabilizer doesn't quite reach above the gutter line? So working with it resting against the house a couple feet below the gutter line but such that your torso/upper body is still over the gutter line? I have a 22' gorilla articulating ladder and it has trouble extending above 2 story gutter lines

Instead of blowing out the leaves why not vacuumed them
@scatter13903 жыл бұрын
Vacuum the leaves?.......................never, sir, never !! It is more efficient and (more importantly) a hell of a lot safer to blow the leaves off the roof during the job for many reasons. (1) If you vacuum up the leaves, you have to constantly empty the waste container. This is totally unnecessary and time consuming which in turn adds extra labour costs to the customer which pisses them off. It also prevents us from getting the job done faster which pisses us off as we're thinking of the money we're losing because we know we should be at the next job for the day by now. (2) The vacuum will clog up most of the time with leaves (100% of the time if they're even the slightest bit damp) so you will spend half the time unblocking the mongrel things......More wasted time. (3) Carrying the waste container down the ladder or lowering it on a rope repeatedly to dispose of the waste (and believe me, there is a lot) is not only unnecessary, it's also back breaking and time consuming. It is also a major safety issue as we want to spend the least amount of time climbing a ladder or anywhere near the edge of the roof. (Hanging from your safety harness in mid air, or even worse, landing on Mrs Magillicutty's ceramic pot plants can really ruin your day) (4) We do not want any extra equipment (waste container) on the roof as it becomes one more object that can potentially fall from the roof onto some poor bastards head. * If you have a hose running to a industrial vacuum and container at ground level then disregard point (3) and (4). BUT, this does not in any way change my opinion on the subject of vacuums. (5) Blowers are a LOT more powerful in blow mode than vacuum mode....A lot! In my opinion, the vacuum mode on a leaf blower is a simply a sales gimmick and and is totally useless. (They're not called leaf 'blowers' for nothing) As a roofer myself, I can assure you it is way more efficient to blow the guttering out and climb down the ladder when done. Then it's simply a matter of walking around the house, blowing the leaves into piles and picking them up with gardeners claws. While doing this, you blow the cobwebs and dust from the outside of the house which will impress the customer immensely and assure you of repeat business and great reviews from them.............Done and dusted!

@@leoarzola4791 I pay all that stuff my accountant is paid to make sure I pay my taxes. I report all of my income and make sure to pay my social security. There are lots of reasons I work by myself and for myself but making tons of money and avoiding paying taxes are not part of it In California minimum wage is 15 an hour and it has revitalized the economy every one is reaping the benefits including me but when I factor in all of my expenses and subtract state and federal taxes I dont make much more than 15. Some times I make way more on a job and sometimes I do huge jobs picture perfect and the owners just wont pay. Once a year I get stiffed and once a year I find customers that over pay and ones that include ridiculously generous tips When it becomes obvious a customer isnt going to pay I forget about it and move on to the next job and dont even get angry it's better just to keep moving forward. Needless to say I dont earn much more than a full time minimum wage employees but I dont have to work with other people and I never get ordered to cut corners. If minimum wage was kept low I would make less money a high minimum wage creates a vibrant happy community that can afford to invest in their homes A high minimum wage turns everyone into a potential customer
