How To Make A Bandolier + Melody Macro For Your Bard - An EverQuest Guide

If you are like me and you had no clue how to set up macros or melodies or weapon sets or that they could be combined together to help with differentiating between pulling and buffing your group and doing damage to the mobs while playing EverQuest, look no further! I couldn't find any information other than forum posts on how to use bandoliers and melody macros, but thankfully some helpful community members helped me set these macros up and I wanted to share that with the EQ community with my guide for bards!

I don’t play bard but thanks for TLP tutorial videos. I hope they have a long tail appeal and this continues to help players for a long time. Might I suggest videos on topics such as TLP UI setup, Macros, xtar, class specifics, using the built in navigation, advanced loot. I feel like there have been so many things I’ve learned he last two weeks that I had to figure out the hard way.

Excellently explained! My original character in EQ was a bard, way back when Kunark launched and I had to stop playing him due to serious hand and wrist pain. Just came back to EQ and I want to give it another go with the old L70 bard, but I've been scared! This is super useful.

After you get dual weild and double attack, your DPS will suffer if you leave an instrument in your offhand permanently during the melody. The instrument only needs to be equipped for the end of the song (if I recall correctly.. it could be the beginning of the song, I quit eq in 2015 lol) you'll want a melee bandolier for an offhand weapon; and to not tie the bando into the melody. My mouse has a few extra mappable keys that I click through my bandos as my melodies go. They are just hotswaps to the correct instrument, a very short pause, then back to the melee bando. Beefs up the songs and maintains a noticeably higher personal dps

I enjoyed your video but it does expose a problem in that you cannot swap instruments while the melody is running if say you have a percussion, brass, string sequence of songs. Of course you can manually click the a hotkey with the bandolier but this can be easily missed - especially as you get into the later expansions and melodies become more convoluted than just a basic sequence. To get around this I wrote a script that monitors the log and looks for "You begin singing ". It then looks up an index of song name to instrument type and activates the bandolier hotkey for that song. I have since expanded the functionality of the script to handle insta-clickies (e.g. Niv's from Breath of Harmony) and automatically activate them (or not activate them if you're doing some like the invis song or song of travel). I realize this is third-party use and technically against the Terms of Service but so is ShowEQ and they don't do anything about that. I also want to state that I am an active bard (not box) on raiding and grouping. I charm, cc, pull, dps etc, I just don't want to be bothered with instrument swaps. It does become easier as you get equipment with instrument modifications on them but these don't get the massive buffs that dedicated instruments have so I still use this. Again I enjoyed your content and went through this process myself before I developed the script.
