Multiboxing on a TrueBox server is different than other servers. Don't be the guy that says "cool setup" but I just do that off my one PC.
TrueBox means one account per one pc, sometimes people get around that by using VMWare but that method is easy to break as we saw in the 64bit update. A change of code can break VMWare and other non-legitimate methods for any amount of unknown time.
TrueBoxing with multiple PCs will ensure you have uninterrupted gameplay always.

6 Box, one machine, 2 monitors (43" TV and 32" wide curved monitor) 4 characters on the TV quartered off, tank and heals on my main monitor. Have 3 full groups, have only gotten as high as level 50. You can change mouse functionality within windows to activate a window upon mouseover, then make some regedit changes to increase the speed of window activation to near instant, no need for alt+tabing. I am literally playing 6 characters at once (heavy social macro usage, easier with casters, can auto-follow for melee dps but more than one is cumbersome) bard and chanter in my main group makes it the most fun as there is charm for days!

My 1st box was a warrior, around Velious, that I used to help my cleric get experience outside of grouping or raids. I bought one of the first small flat panel monitors that I could fit on the side of my desk using my *super ancient*, 6 month old PC on a second dial up line. I managed to run 2 phone lines into my apartment computer room back then. It was a bit of a trip hazard, but Bob wasn't going to just mail me his loot heh. No one could call me in the evenings or during the weekends, and I was totally fine with it back then.🤘 Thanks for making this video. I really enjoyed it.

Great video. I multi box for mostly the same reasons. I enjoy building a full party and then figuring out how to get the best synergy working between the members for maximum DPS and effectiveness.

Right? There's just so many different combos to tryout when you box as little as 2 but when you get to a full group I always find reasons to add different classes cause I "needed" them for a specific purpose or area.

I have a similar setup. I mounted Intel nucs behind the monitors for the extras. But I use separate monitors and input devices. Very similar to how I boxxed back in the original days, except now I have a monitor mount. The key to boxxing successfully is to have view of what is going on at all times. Hot keys are important and game pads come in handy.

I'm getting back into EverQuest and am learning about multiboxing. Have you thought about using Elgato stream deck to control some of the PCs? I would think it would be easier than having multiple keyboards for each PC and just use multiplicity for the mouse.

So if you're playing 14 characters, do you level them all together in a raid or something? Is there a huge nerf to XP once you farm a raid?

I really wish they increased raid exp like even if it was like penalized and divided by each character in the raid but it's so fractional because that would be really fun to do even if I had to split exp 14 ways and it was a 50% penalty I might still consider it with how fast experience is, but what I typically do is level up a main set, and then I use the main set to power level the secondary sets, which when there's 14 it's basically 2 sets of alts. Once they are all leveled up the way I do AA is in rotation depending on what AA is available and who will benefit the most, you keep enough DPS in the main group and the other 8 chars ungrouped so no single character outside the group can out dps your main group for exp and you just go to town with all 14 chars.

Are the 4 mini PCs conected to the 4x monitor via HDMI? I didn't see HDMI as an option on mini PCs, but you had mentioned it in the video. Or are they conected with a different cable?

They are connected with a Display Port to HDMI Cable. The Display Port comes out of the Mini PCs and HDMI into the monitor. There is one Display Port on the monitor in case you wanted to run a single computer at 4k resolution effectively.

Some players are impatient children and run ahead and wipe the group. Boxing gives me control. I know that my group will not do anything stupid and get me killed. I try to look for group all the time, but it's rare that I find anyone to group with for a quick Lost Dungeons mission.

Question: Why 4 Rangers and not 4 Magicians for DPS? Is it because of MoM on nameds? Also, would you pick another DPS if Zerkers were available?

The 4 rangers were only used for like Luclin maybe into Gates for DPS that can sit outside of AoE range on a lot of encounters, low maintenance dps basically. For actual dps if you can heal and sustain them you'd go monk/zerker. Mages get rocked hard by MOTM but all the caster DPS is really really bad for a long time, even with my Wizard doing most DPS on short fights any long fights there is no way possible to keep him with mana for the whole fight and if you pause more between casts to make it the entire fight lengths then he turns into a really low end dps compared to those melee classes. I don't know at what expansion they fix that for casters but Wizard with all the AA BiS gear with enchanter bard beastlord and I think I even pumped him a few times with a necro still doesn't cut it.

I'm using multiplicity for a duo but if I use mouse movement / camera movement on my secondary it spins and moves my primary around too. Do you know how to fix this?

There might be other workarounds but the easiest is to plug a mouse into the other PC.

Maybe I missed it but you didn't address how you got Joy to Key to press the same button across multiple PC's with one button press. Is this an option within Joy to Key?

No it's not a joy to key thing, what's happening is multiplicity is passing the keystroke through, otherwise you would need joytokey on each pc and 4 separate controllers.

I'm back to EQ after many many years. This boxing stuff certainly is popular, I see it all the time on FV. I wonder why DB just doesn't make it possible to run multiple mercenaries if so many people want to go this route? I mean, they seem functional - this boxing stuff is very interesting but seems quite complicated. I might need to learn how to do it though as I am trying to do quests and nobody groups anymore, the zones are all empty (

That's why most people end up boxing and I think you're onto something, it would be interesting to have a server with the ruleset of being able to fill a full group with mercenaries.

There is a bit of a learning curve, and depending on how you choose to set up, can be made better or worse. The issues kick in with higher level AA's when each character requires most of your focus. Early on it's just tank and spank which is easy with social macros. All the grouping on live happens at max level, mercs + boxing allow folks to level up with relative ease till they reach those higher levels, where the mercs lose their edge and the group becomes more necessary. TLP servers are where it's at for grouping.

I just started learning to box recently. Right now my main is a Paladin and my box is a shaman. I’ve had them on separate accounts since the beginning because I always intended them to be a team, but I pretty much lvled each separately. Paladin was always my go to main so I knew that class pretty well. Playing the shaman solo gave me a good feel for what the class could do. I think it made it easier to box because of that. Rn I’m learning how to mesh the two at the same time and getting my muscle memory down for the second keyboard/mouse. Soon I’ll add in the pet for extra dps. Eventually I’ll end up getting a third which I’m thinking might be a monk.

It's really an attempt to limit people from boxing if you could run 12 VMs then they figure more people would box while at the same time it doesn't stop people from buying 12 pcs but for the progression servers they really probably don't want anyone to box much at all but aren't willing to go to super extreme measures to prevent it. I remember running 18 off one pc on live servers back in the day with 3 huge monitors and 6 characters on each screen perfectly filed into little boxes.

Bard (main) necro (truebox) mage (truebox) war/cler/dps mercs. (Drop dps merc for second cleric on harder mobs, using Warrior as a "buffer" for pet health.. no worries if merc Warrior dies, pets can clean up the mess because my bard pulls aren't typically bad pulls)

I have multiplicity on two setups and synergy on another, I have a 15 box setup that uses 2 copies of multiplicity and then a synergy setup that's completely separate for a 9 box in a diff location in the house, they both have diff quirks.

So the linked up mini pcs are annoying in some aspects but they save so much space, it would be really hard to have room for 12-14 laptops or keyboard and mice, so the linked up mini pcs work okay if it's like the same character types (melee dps, caster dps) my tanks and healers are all mainly on laptops or solo pcs so I have full control because sometimes in a panic situation you lose track of the mouse on those quad screens and just end up crying. If I only had one group I would still put 4 on those quad screens using mini pcs because it would be hard to link the laptops together and get their displays all set, however, if you used the laptops like a mini pc and ran external monitors into some type of 2x2 monitor setup that would work as well. My tank and healer for the last 2 characters in group would be on separate pcs or minis unlinked from the rest.

@@jc-ev2jb Just so we are clear, the computers are linked by a separate software independent of the monitor you use so you could link all 4 on the monitor and then all the laptops and even the other big monitors 4 together. I only have the 4 of them connected together via the software you can use one mouse and keyboard for all 4 it acts like if you had a 4 monitor setup on one pc so when you scroll out the top of the bottom right display it goes into the top right etc. The keystrokes can be passed through to all 4 as well or disabled and only work on the screen you have active. If you hook a mouse and keyboard to all of the mini pcs on the big monitor you would be able to control them all individually, if you had a gamepad hooked up to only one of the mini pcs and passed that through to all 4 it would still be passing through whatever you sent that way even if you were using the keyboard and the mouse hooked up separately which could be a problem if you forget to turn it off and take control manually.

@@skillfulactor09 It's not technically legal anywhere but it's also not really detectable, the way they catch you is when you seem to know when stuff is spawning that you shouldn't or by targetting things you can't actually see, they used to put things in game that don't show up to regular players and only show up on ShowEQ users and they'd get you that way.

Thanks for the video. Any suggestions for a starting setup for just 2 characters(do I need to sub for the second, or can I run multiple instances of EQ characters with one account, sorry but I am a newb to multiboxing). I am just starting out with two because I want to get comfortable with that before I add more characters to the group. I don't have a VPN Service setup at the moment but I guess it is best to do so. This is my setup : Samsung G9 49" monitor. Intel I7, 32 gig ram, gfxcard: Nvindia 3080 laptop 16GB Ram. At the moment I just have one mouse and keyboard. What would be the programs that I should run with EQ to make the multiboxing experience the easiest for a newb? (taking into account that I want to maybe add one or two characters in the future as I get more experience with multiboxing)? Thank you in advance.

What server are you playing on? If you're on the Live servers you can play for free on as many accounts as you want off of one computer. If you're going to box on a TrueBox TLP you'll need 1 pc per character and you'll have to subscribe on every account. If you go live, there's mercenaries in game already so each character gets another supporting character which probably makes it possible to solo level a lot of it, I don't have many recommendations for playing on live, seems people like to play tanks or dps and use mercs to heal, traditionally Shadowknight / Shaman is the best duo box. You also won't need the VPN service on live servers, there's an array of tools at redguides.com for multi-boxing, I used to use WinEQ or ISBoxer when I had a lot of windows on one computer I needed to manage.

Boxing is the only way to progress on most things. I box 3 to 4 using a main PC and cheap laptops. Will I break down to 1 or 2 and grp yes, however I end up more often then not just taking random peeps who cant get a grp because groups all want the perfect group. I could care less if I end up with several druids or palys.

​@@Choklar_ I think it would be neat if they administered a live server or even a TLP like they do on P99, I like the idea of having server rules that everyone on it has to follow, I don't mind boxing or even mq2 but what bothers me is when people get away with violating the rules. They could make an MQ2 server and I'd be cool with it, I might not play on it, but I've seen people MQ2 farming on the TLPs and ghosting around perma camping named bosses which is beyond the rules for sure and I really dislike it when people get that type of unchecked advantage when they should be banned from the server.

Boxers just need to stay on servers with other boxers instead of trying workarounds\lobbying for less restrictions. If you want to shortcut your way to these accomplishments, by all means.

They have things like p99 that is somewhat alive and doesn't allow boxers, but other than that I think almost everything would just die, the only reason p99 works is because everyone is always in classic etc, on the TLPs it just moves way too fast there probably wouldn't even be enough for one guild on most to raid if there were no boxers.

right now i am going to play 2 accounts on a laptop. when i get the funds to buy a new large monitor for my tower computer then i'll ad 1 account till i can handle it then add a 4th account . that should be my main 4 accounts i used to run .... if i can reaquire those emails and passwords !!! LOL other wise i'll just have to make new accounts and build from scratch. grins- the first what 12 levels are in that underground area anyway so its easy, and with every character getting a helper his own healer or damage dealer i can run groups of 8 ( 4 characters with each characters helper.) by the time i level out of glooming deep i should have all the bugs and controls worked out again.

EQ was never a social aspect for me even in the 2000s I had probably 6 people that I was close with in game and we'd box together doing cool stuff, since those days I look at groups as the equivalent of say playing one, and mini raids with my boxed friends is the equivalent of grouping now. Even on the TLPs now there's a handful of people I reroll with but we each box our own groups for the most part, it allows us to progress without waiting on each other, I think of EQ as a solo activity I do in my spare time, for social things I go places in real life or do other things like sports still.

@@archon5951 hah ;) it’s okay, just because real life is massive multiplayer doesn’t mean I’m conversing with everyone in the store or I see, I get what you’re saying but all it really did was let players work together to do things if they wanted, I think that gets confused a lot with socializing being social when it’s really just existing in a society in whatever way you want

Boxing is what keeps these servers alive after the initial "omgerd a new TLP!" surge. The biggest gripe prior to DBG releasing Phinny, the original truebox server after Ragefire/Lockjaw, was to combat mage armies that were interfering with casual guilds wanting to raid. Even pick zones didn't help to much. Eventually when they added instances, since pick zones and MotM wasn't stopping the mega boxers, that alleviated the need to control the boxing so guilds could enjoy "end game" content. In my opinion since we now have pickzones and raid instances, there should be no "true box". Again, the initial gripe after pickzones was raid targets and instances solve that. My opinion: every TLP release each year roll out 2 servers. 1 truebox and one normal that allows for boxing (think Rizlona rollout). That way you appease both groups of folks. Me personally, like the creator of this video, I play at random times, I go afk a lot to deal with kids/family, I also work remote so I may have to go afk to deal with a work event. I may only have an hour to play and don't want to sit LFG for most of it or waste a groups time joining and leaving shortly after (I hate when people do that personally). There are a plethora of reasons folks like to box. DBG makes it difficult with the truebox nonsense. Not all boxers are cheaters. Using software like multiplicity or even isboxer is not cheating. It has no advantages to gameplay. It's only a means of quality of life for running multiple accounts.
