It would be much more efficient if you install a baffle plate. I welded mine across the inside 3" below the top, from the back wall of the stove to about 6" from the front of the stove. That way the flame has to travel to the front of the stove, and over the baffle, then go back to the rear of the stove to exit the flue. It will help trap more of the heat, while burning up more of the smoke on its way out. You can turn the burn rate down and use more wood with a hotter flame. I added a 1" pipe inside the stove to feed air thru small holes help burn smoke (like a gas burner) and there's no smoke coming out of the chimney at all! Way more efficient than just burning wood in there and letting all that heat go out the flue.

Good video.. I was relieved to see it, as many other barrel-building videos I've seen haven't addressed the serious issue of using them indoors!

thinking of putting one of these in my basement. thoughts? this is the only video ive seen where its used indoors, i want to seal it up proper, vent it with triple wall duravent, and wrap the barrel with high temp flex duct. build a box for a blower fan i have so i can incorporate a filter, hook that fan to the flex duct and pip it into my plenum. hook up a thermostat upstairs on the main floor ( i have a 2100 sq ft ranch) run the wire to a relay then to that blower fan. so when the thermostat calls for heat it trips the relay, kick the blower fan on blows it around the barrel super heating it and blowing it through the whole house. once the house reaches temp, kicks the fan off. also in the summer i could use the fan system to suck the cool air from the un-finished poured concrete basement (hence the need for a filter box) and blow it through the house also. thoughts? sincerely, wanting to save some $$

Your improvements made that a lot better ..I quit using mine because the stove was not able to shut it down enough from all air gaps....I have now made my own stove with a gasket on the door
