This video is extremely useful and I'll probably keep coming back to refer to it and the other bra videos you made that are also really good. Trying to find well supporting garments that are also comfortable to wear is such a nightmare I just about gave up. Newer sewn something this structured before so grateful you are so willing to share your wisdom. Thank you!

I have this need to start making my own clothes! Manufacturers don't know what our unique bodies are shaped like or what our measurements are. Also, the "fashion" industry is ruining our comfort... I can not stand the fabrics they use! (aside from the colors and patterns but that's more of a personal taste issue rather than comfort.) I was able to find and order 3 different recency dress patterns (LOVE them!) and now you've definitely got me thinking of the undergarment issue too! This is the logical next step for me. :)

This is a beautiful project thanks for sharing 😍😍 I’m definitely inspired to make a vintage long line bra I’ve made a standard bullet bra but I love long lines currently I just wear true vintage ones.

Thank you. Last summer I got stymied on my attempt to make a version of a bullet bra. I will definitely be coming back to this video repeatedly. By-the-by - you know that Singer made an Automatic Zigzagger foot in the 50's? They're a little pricy on the ebay, but it will save you from switching machines in mid-make. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

Great! Thanks for your comment! I hope your bullet bra turns out well ☺Yes, I have heard of those zig zaggers - definitely something to think about!

Thank you very much for sharing the process and pattern - I'll have to alter it to fit, and might do a couple things a bit differently, but I'll definitely use it - it will save me some important steps in the whole figuring things out process. 🙂(I've made myself some simpler 1930s-style bras and I've become equally enamoured of homemade vintage-style bras. They breathe!) P.S. For the resizing tips, you might want to check out Diane Deziel's video (videos?) on grading bra cups. I think it's a slightly more precise process, and as far as I can recall, she includes tips on altering the "cradle" shape, too, if someone's body circumference matches but the cup size needs to be different.

I'm thinking, is it possible to change the pointy cup to a morden shape cup and make the bra still supportive with no wire? I don't need to pointy look, but the comfort intrigued me.
@kathleenwoods84162 жыл бұрын
I'd imagine so, depending on your natural shape & desired shape. It might even fit better without some of the more superfluous padding.

Lovely, would love to make one. My size is almost like yours, 30G, and I find often the cups are too far apart, which yours also looks to be. Is it possible to do or is it not a problem with this style of bra? Karen
@KatherineSewing2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Vintage bras often had their cups closer together to achieve the fashionable shape at the time, and my bra is no exception. The beauty of making your own is you can tweak the pattern and fit to suit your body 💕

Hi, that is such a cool project. Do you find that it is hard to adjust because it is only made of woven fabrics?
@KatherineSewing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This particular bra does not adjust at all as it doesn't have adjustable straps or multiple hook and eye options like modern bras. Unless I gain weight, this shouldn't be a problem because it is tailored to fit me perfectly. Unlike mass produced bras, which have to be able to fit many different body types. Woven fabric bras can be made more adjustable however, through the use of elastic inserts, adjustable straps, and multiple hook/eyes at the back. ☺️
@barbarat672 жыл бұрын
@@KatherineSewing Thank you so much! I was thinking of making one myself. I might insert some elastic just to be sure :)

Is there anything that needs to be done differently for someone with a high belly roll? In mod clothing, it causes the torso fabric to roll up. My narrowest point is my underbust.
@raraavis77823 ай бұрын
I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I think I see boning channels? Or if not, you could add them. Vertical boning in garments like these serves exactly this purpose - it keeps the fabric from rolling/bunching/creasing. It does mean, the garment needs to be hand washed, however.

I thought her audio mixing skills were quite impressive. The music is only louder when she isn't speaking, but not so loud you feel blasted with sound. When she is speaking the music volume drops significantly so you can actually hear what she says very clearly. So many people leave the sound up on their videos so it's impossible to hear what they are saying, and I appreciate that she didn't do that.
