Such a cool concept. Somehow it kind of has a scarecrow vibe. I could see where using "hay"-like thin strips to do the stem could be an interesting look as well.

Yes, I also get scarecrow! How cool would it be to do the Wizard of Oz characters in cardboard!?!?
@a.a.29362 ай бұрын
@janesawyermakes Or (sorry I'm still stuck on the pumpkin) have hay sticking out from under the lid so the lid is like a hat. May need to make the "brim" wider though. It's really such a great craft, tons of possibilities!

So, I love your pumpkin! I also saw an opportunity for another pumpkin. It's the same as this one except you put on tiny googly eyes and paint the whole thing to look like riveted metal. Use chrome spray paint on the entire thing, and then rub and buff for details, maybe adding some rust here and there. This may be a general challenge for strips of cardboard. It Might be.

I agree with your feelings on how it’s ok to pronounce words differently, your shorts in the subject are chefs kiss. The pumpkin is phenomenal, yay for happy mistakes. It reminds me of the way Tim Burton did his pumpkins in Nightmare before Christmas.❤

This would make an incredible last-minute costume tbh! Just cut a hole in the bottom for your head (+ maybe add some foam or something for comfort) and you have a spooky new mask!
@janesawyermakes2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure how last-minute it would be... Gotta let that paper maché dry, etc. if you had a couple days, you could def make it work!

I am SO glad that you thought you made a "mistake" and decided to go this route. The texture, the added depth of character is amazing. You have elevated what some may consider a simple craft, into a real piece of art! honestly, I LOVE it!! I can't wait to make my own! Adding my two cents from stuff I have been learning (NOT a critique, as your piece is great, as is! HONEST!!) If you want to try - paint your piece in your base color, then spray sealer or laquer all over (or mod podge?), and then add a really thin wash. Then the dark paint drops into the recesses without saturating the cardboard (sealer acting as barrier) , and then wipe away the excess wash at the high points. Then drybrush the high points with a lighter orange to accentuate all the edges. Still....it is just as amazing as an unpainted piece!! Thank you for sharing your skills!

Great idea! I would not have thought to spray on a sealer and add wash over top! This would have worked! 😁 Next time... Thanks!

First off I want to say I love the texturing on the pumpkin that is very cool. And it has a very scarecrow vibe to it. I've been out of spray paint kick this season.. so I probably would have gotten a burnt umber orange. Getting all the nooks and crannies and everything else. Then followed that up with a couple layers of a brighter orange on top that way you get the the dark shadows and then the lighter areas the more surface stuff. And then after that maybe dry brushed with an even lighter almost yellow orange along the edges. Again that's me on my current spray paint kick. Lol😂
