Hey!!! I once made A large square shaped stepping stone to try and see how.it would turn out.My hubby made a square wood frame with 2x4s , i out the metal mesh in the centre , and.poured it real thick , probably 1.5 to 2 inches thick because I wanted it to last in the garden all year and survive a Canadian winter. I actually put the slate pieces and glass mosaic tiles in the wood form first, then sprinkled sand in the crevices between all the tesserae, then poured the cement over top, and let cure. The most exciting part was to flip the paver out of the form, to reveal the mosaic that was in the bottom. ! It's been about15 years now and it's still.perfect! I think the key to success was it's thickness, to withstand ice and snow and thaw cycles. I should make more now that I've seen your video Julie ! Thanks 😊

Hi Mermaid Seahorse! What a fun project!! And you got your husband involved. Fantastic!! Yes, I can imagine the thicker the better to weather the Canadian winters. I'm in Miami so super brrrrrrr! Here's how I tiled my stepping stone: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIqoYomqYqt5faM. Did you seal your stepping stone? Here's a video on that topic as well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3vUi4hrqsiAlc0. Summer's right around the corner, perfect time to make another! Thanks for sharing. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

@@JulieWeilbacher thanks Julie 😊 I didn't seal it because I didn't know hahaha! The spaces between the tess are small, it's held up amazingly well! And yes I should make more with my hubby!! Cheers , ✌☮

I'v compared the cost of do it myself and purchasing pavers. Even a basic cement paver is $1.80 in my area. Also, I've spent less than $1 for my molds, because I bought baking pans from yard sales and thrift stores.

Love this video & detailed instructions -- I want to make a draped lawn ornament using fabric dipped in a cement/concrete slurry.....I am having trouble finding out what product to use.....I used a product called Topping & bedding sand mix & it was waaaay to sandy.....when I watch the videos the product used seems more like milkshake consistancy without alot of sand left on the bottom of the mixing container. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Great Channel.Your channel is clear and easy to understand. I have a question, my sink needs to be revamped, and I would like to mosaic it. I don't know what the material is called, but so you know what I'm talking about, it comes incorporated with the table. My question is: Which is the best glue since it will be in constant contact with water. Thanks
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 3 жыл бұрын
Liliana, I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying my channel. A mosaic sink sounds like SO MUCH fun!! Because it will come in constant contact with water, I would recommend using fortified thin-set mortar as your adhesive.

I have some styrofoam coolers. Can I use them to make stepping stones? I am particularly thinking of using the lids, sealing with something, and then pouring in the concrete. Will that work? Do I need to use a release agent also?

I love this. My only question is if I wanted to put feet or hand prints when do I do it? Right away or wait for it to dry a little bit first?
@JulieWeilbacher
@JulieWeilbacher 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer! Pouring your own stepping stones is pretty easy and cost effective if you're making more than a few. I would wait an hour or so before adding hand prints. You'll want to watch it once it's poured so you don't miss the window of opportunity. Feet can always been added afterwards using thinset as the adhesive. But yes, hand prints need to be done while the cement is still workable, but not too workable. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Thanks for the video. I really so much liked the design on the dragonfly- plants mosaic example that you showed. I was hoping you were covering how to decorate a stepping stone with that same 'look' to it. It looks to me like the same mosaic stones were used all over the top, but some have painting or drawing of the fly/ plants. Can you please give info how you would paint/ draw such images on your mosaic pieces so that they are made to last with the 'look' of the example you showed. I'd love to paint/ draw my own mosaic tiles with my own art/ designs & I am just getting started with concrete art.

I did poured some a few years ago. Only 2 survived these winters. I dud sealed then and my grandson decorate them. I don't have pictures right now but they came out ok. I had a few crumbled on itself so they aren't useful. I don't know what other kind of sealant I could use. Any advice?

I make mine like a pineapple upside down cake. I make the stained glass design on contact paper then put another piece of contact paper on top flip it remove the bottom layer of contact paper, put in a greased mold then pour a Portland cement (94 lb bag is $4.75) and sand ( 50 lb bag is $4.50) mixture. I measure by weight My batter is milkshake thick and pours easily. My cost is about $1.00 per stepping stone.

Can you mosaic a cement stepping stone and still walk on them? We’re looking to make some to thank donators at my daughter’s school and it would be great if we could walk on them without worrying about damaging them. Kids are brutal. 😅
