How did I miss this video? Luckily early in this leather journey I stopped at Tandy and the last said, buy this. I saw a cool one another leather working had on KZbin. It's cold in the garage in winter, so I'm thinking of making a Cadillac stitching pony so I can sit inside not watching kids cartoons with my little one. Excellent information as always.

Yeah, I got the idea from Little King Goods. I think it is in his saddle stitch video.

4:15 nice!! If you added a hinge at the bottom of the 2x4s, then you could use it like a clamshell style. I would be easier to clamp, in my opinion! I made my own stitching pony and covered the jaw with leather, it was pretty cheap.

Those are great tips man! Wish I had seen this video years ago, would have saved me a lot of trouble! My dad helped me build mine. We pretty much made a copy of the Tandy one. Love the design of that fancy bench style one you’ve got there! If I were to do it again I would go for a similar style. Hmmmmm......... maybe I will!!!!

Thanks, brother! These fancy ones are definitely a luxury item. The homemade one will pretty much do anything the higher end ones will.

Big thanks. Im getting tired of using my knees and have the scrap wood and clamps just sitting around. I'm about to go throw something together and stop cramping my legs. 😆

I feel so stupid. Never thought of wood clamps!! I have used a vice. Edit: Thank you so much!, this makes life a little easier!!
@BlackFlagLeatherGoods2 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped! If I did wood clamps again, I'd find a way to make a gap between the pieces of wood where the bulk of the projects sits. Also I'd taper the top a bit. The square ends on the 2x4's was always a pain while stitching.

A super easy and cheap way to upgrade the Ghetto Pony is this: Line up the top of the jaws, clamp them together. Drive two 3" screws (or nails) 1" deep into the LONG jaw right at the bottom of the short jaw, so the bottom of the short jaw rests on the screws. You now have a little "ledge" to keep the short jaw from falling on you.
