DIY Cyclone Dust Collector cart, designed for woodworkers with small workshops. FAST and EASY clean out and a LED system so you can easily see when the bucket is full. 😏
What i like about cyclone collector system is that you never lose suction, and 97% of dust/debris goes in the bucket so you don't have to clean the shopvac filter every time you empty the bucket. I designed mine with 2 clamps so it's fast and easy to empty the bucket. Also, i added a led light system so you can easily see when the bucket is full. I designed my cart vertically, it take less space in my small woodshop.
I tried to build this dust collector with materials i had on hand at the lowest possible cost. I had to buy the plastic cyclone dust collector, and with my low budget i opted for the china version. You can choose the original Oneida here : www.oneida-air... or the china knockoff on Ebay/Ali ( I do not want to start the debate between the original version and the knockoff version, you choose the one you prefer. 😉 ).
Materials used :
- Plywood 5/8 ( i used leftovers )
Complete wood parts dimensions here : / 451134087664859740
You can download sketch up model in my instructable : www.instructab...
- Cyclone dust collector
oneida-air.com ( or china, you choose ;) )
- 5 Gallon bucket ( 18.92L )
- Piano hinge ( Hardware store )
- 2 small toggle clamp ( Ebay or Ali )
- 4 casters ( i choosed 2 fixed and 2 swivels )
- Spray paint ( i had black and chrome paint leftovers )
Central Vacuum System ( Hardware Store for theses parts ) :
- 2" vacuum pipe
- 2" 90° Sweep Elbow (2x)
- 2" 90° Short Elbow (1x)
- 2" pipe clamp (3x)
- 2" Coupling
- Joint Cement
- 2" rubber coupling with clamps

Love the design and looking to build my own. However, I'm a little concerned about the seal between the foam on the rim of the bucket and the top shelf. Is it air tight? Is there some leakage causing lose of suction? Please advise.

Hey! The pipe foam was working perfectly as a seal, but i had to replace it two time before i decided to make an upgrade.I took 30 minutes to make a 4 picture pin on my pinterest to show you an upgrade I made of my seal system. I replaced the pipe seal with an under carpet that i covered with vapor barrier tape for more durability, then I screwed the under carpet to the plank over the bucket. Now when I lock the clamp, it lift the bucket onto the under carpet and make a perfect seal. It works perfectly, it's sealed and also when you remove the bucket, you end up with the bucket only, not the bucket and the seal. Check it out here : www.pinterest.com/pin/451134087681923397/ or search SEB TECH DIY on Pinterest , hope it help!

This is such a clever design -I like it. I wonder if you fitted one of those foam carpet tiles (with a hole!) underneath the cyclone shelf, the pipe seal would be fine - it wouldn't them be rubbing against wood. I think thats what I'm going to try.@@SEBTECHDIY

The author does like to from scratch, kzbin.infoUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. As another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us don’t have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we won’t be able to practise the full stack project, is still great.

I use the size 1 and 1/0 Mustad hooks to freeline for snook kzbin.infoUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 and they have been fantastic. The points are super sharp, and the hook is small enough to blend with my baitfish, yet large enough to land fish 30" or more. I also use these hooks when I'm pier or surf fishing with my kids. They tend to catch tons of smaller snapper, whiting, and catfish, and we get far fewer gut hooks with these Mustad in-lines, which means more of them survive after release. I was actually using these hooks when I caught my friend too, but I think that had more to do with the bait I was using ;-)

I completed mine a few weeks ago. My first 'real' project. I used 3/4" plywood and added an additional 8" on the back . Made a shelf for some vacuum tools. It is so much more than I hoped for. Thank you for a great design. Btw, I didn't add the light. So easy to just drop the shelf and look in the bucket.

I built this and it has saved countless filter cleanings. I did make a modification to the input by extending it down through the top shelf and out on top of collector bucket shelf and attaching to the shelf arm. Eliminated the tippy when pulling by the hose and took strain off the cyclone. Thank you!

Definitely the best looking diy dust collector tray I’ve seen. I regret buying a 10gal DeWalt shop vac now, it’s going to make this thing massive when I build it
@SEBTECHDIY
@SEBTECHDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Wow, thanks! And if you buy a shopvac ( i know you already done but ) the best thing to focus on is HP and not the overall size of the recipient because 99% of the debris will go in your bucket. Hope you are going to share your project with us when it's done! 👍

SEB TECH DIY I had no idea about dust cyclones when I went shop vac shopping. The DeWalt was the most powerful and surprisingly cheapest out of all the options in my price range, I always assumed a shop vac was equipped to deal with saw dust but after using it I can really see the power drop off when I vacuumed tons of fine dust. That led me to endless searches on dust cyclones and I found yours. Like I said, not trying to blow hot steam in your ear but this is literally the most ergonomic and most aesthetically pleasing of all designs I’ve found. When I got to the part of the lights I just thought “okay this guy is just showing off now” but seeing the functionality of it blew my mind. Excellent job you’ve done here sir.

Best dust collection on KZbin! I’ve spent months researching and watching countless videos on ideas for dust collection. When I saw this video and the way this system worked I was sure I found what I was looking for. I made this a few days ago (sorry, without the lights) and the performance is beyond expectations. For anyone with a small shop this is a must. This doesn’t take up much room and I can wheel this system anywhere in my shop. Congrats on a great idea for dust collection!

@SEB, great build and video. I built one and love it. Use it daily. I fashioned a hose clip on the back from a piece of old coat hanger and adding an extension cord hook this evening. When I mod it all up I will see about adding pics to your instructables page. Only thing I might change if I built another... the 6 bolts for Dust Deputy I would use flat heads and come up from bottom and countersink so they are flush. That way nothing can catch on the foam seal when taking bucket in and out. I used standard bolts that I cut down and square nuts that are low profile so it works quite well. Flat heads would just be that much better IMO. Thanks again man, awesome build and very useful tool.

Great video, subscribed. I like the useful idea for a project, the clean and to the point editing style (no 10-minute vlogs about the philosophy of dust collection, what you did on your summer vacation, etc.), the on screen cut list with measurements, and even the simple elegant design elements of the project itself (i.e., it's not a rolling workshop that does 15 things including making ice cream -- it's a dust collector cart, period). I also like the vertical design, requiring less of a footprint in a small shop. Well done!

I'm a newbie and I was able to build this, no problem. Great video and great design. Thanks for posting! I made just a couple of changes. Instead of the hold down clamps I just used 1/4" x 3" eye bolts (so I would have something to grasp) and drilled a hole through the collection bucket shelf supports and shelf to hold the shelf up right and tight. I have a different Shop Vac but the dimensions were almost the same. Mine was just a bit taller so I added a little to the uprights to compensate. I also used two fixed and two rotating casters however, I think I'm going to change the fixed ones to rotating. And I didn't use the central vac piping because I couldn't find any locally so, I used 2 1/2" Shop Vac hose instead. I'll eventually change that to hard pipe. Finally, I just used an old paint bucket I had that's not translucent. So, no light inside. Yet. I'll eventually change that also. Oh, and I didn't paint mine. Yet.

Damn, nice job. never actually seen a jig saw table like that before. Also the use of LEDs is ingenuity at its finest. I was thinking of using a clear acrylc window in the bucket but theres the risk of it being cover with saw dust. This is the perfect solution.

Have you had any problems with bucket collapsing when used with your design? I have seen others where the bucket collapses. They said the fix was to use a double bucket system. Terrific video and editing,

It's fun to take humble material and put some effort into making it look like someone thought about what they were doing. Simple elegance, practicality and functionality.
