Out of all the DIY stencil tutorials I`ve looked at, yours is the most user friendly, made with minimal supplies, and works great. I didn`t have to run to the craft store and buy a bunch of materials I most likely would not use again. Thanks for making my stencil making life so much easier.

I do the same thing except I put a sheet of carbon paper under my stencil that way once it’s traced, you’re done. No need to trace again with a pen.
@SophieMia8065 жыл бұрын
That's what I was going to ask, if carbon paper might be a better option, to avoid having to retrace before cutting, like you said.

Cool idea, I would have cut out the centers and saved them as a mask. I have 2 little tips. Add a couple layers of gesso to protect them from paint and dampness. If you want to make a slightly more permanent stencil you can use a clear heavy binder sleeve cut to make a single layer.

Sir, I've been on Utube since the early days. These days, "Content creators", try & out do each other, in video after video. Which in turn, makes it difficult for the newbies. Who are trying, to learn n do, different things. What they forget is, for some, the "KISS" method. Can lead some folks to, the "Simple Vids in Life" ! Thanks, I have not or may have never made a Stencil, ever ! Your Vid, saved me money, is an easy DIY and the "Pride of Diy's", is the feeling you get from self achievement. The Moral of my story, "Before we Split the Atom, we have to know that it exists n works 1st." - @true Thx !

Pro Tip, when cutting cardboard don't hold your knive at 90 degrees to the paper. Make a slight bevel, it will cut much easier. I work as a loftsman, we cut a lot of that paper. I'll put a video on Instagram and tag you. We have an old Orion plotter that draws out our shapes but we have to cut them by hand.

Finally!!! An easy way to make a stencil. Question. How can we make the letters proportionate to what sized poster, paper , canvas we are using? Like I have an 15h x 20L sign I want to say something specific. And I want to maximize all the space in my paper/canvas. Any advice?
@ndaba94832 жыл бұрын
You can make a sample print in black and white of the same size with the canvas if it’s bigger then you can take it a notch down e.g A1 instead of A0

Would a light grade construction paper work. Also would spray paint work I don't need it to be perfect? I just it to be legible I am putting name and phone number on my rafting paddles.
@wmwalkerco3 жыл бұрын
I've never used construction paper so I can't speak from experience. I used to use file folders though and they worked great.
@windypup88455 жыл бұрын
Why not glue the paper printout to the cardboard then cut around the letter? You won't have to do the tracing to put a dent image on the card and you won't have to trace it out with a pen in order to cut the letter out. Just paste and cut!!!

You can trace on Duralar or plastic folders if you have them. Use basting spray from the quilting department on the back of the stencil for a temporary adhesive. Wash the stencil in cold water while the paint is still wet. A heated stencil cutting tool would make the cutting go faster if desired. It took forever but I finally found a video with the above tips.
