Great video, How To vids are always a help and making hoses (303) saves a bunch of money, I replaced all the Fuel, Oil and Hydraulic lines on my Mooney, (there were 19 or so in all). Buying them would have run me over 2k and 3-4 weeks time. The A&P / IA I was working under told me make my own, so I ended up spending just over $750, which included a hand full of “B” nuts that needed replaced, several fittings, Fire Sleeve for those inside the cowl (which it didn’t have before) and the -3 thru -12 mandrels. Full day making the hoses, half a day getting them pressure tested at the local 147 school. I had ordered a few feet more of each size hose just incase and was able to help a few others out with a few brake lines and fuel lines.

Yeah, it's way cheaper to make them yourself than buy them. I know some places sell kits for any given aircraft, and I'm sure there is decent money doing that.

I did forget that and I had an awful time lol, was called my old retired mechanic who is in Virgina now like wtf and he just calmly told me. These tasks are where I wish I were Clark Kent from Smallville

Question, do you know of any accelerated A&P schools? I'm in the army and I do qualify to test out for my A&P, but I don't feel as though I am qualified enough without getting some hands-on learning that an A&P school would offer.

Depends on what state you are in, In Texas there is Hallmark, St. Phillips, Delmar, U.S. Aviation Academy, Tarrant County, And others. I teach at a 147 in San Antonio that is not Hallmark. I never name the school as I am not an authorized rep and so on. There are also several nation wide schools and lots of community colleges in every state like Spartan or Embry Riddle

Hey Nick do you have your tickets to take the test? If not get them. Then get your butt to bakers school of aeronautics. In 2 weeks you will knock out all your written test and your oral and practical. They are located in Lebanon Tennessee.

I read it the first time as he wasn't Quilfied from the army. But yes if you are already signed off on your 8610-2 then go to Bakers. I went for my IA and they made it super easy

@@joedaviss9448 Bakers is an awesome place, I am a Canadian AME and I went there to get my conversion to an A&P. They were great. I totally enjoyed my time and met some nice mechanics also.

@@brycebuildsit So more so my question is, is there any A&P school you know of that is more accelerated to around 6 months long roughly. I have 7 years of maintenance experience but I don't do much airframe, electrical, powertrain stuff as that is how the army separates it. I overlap a little into those with my job but I feel like if I got my A&P I wouldn't have the correct amount of knowledge and training to actually us an A&P license which is why I want to still attend a school but if possible not do two years' worth of a course as I know I can confidently skip some of it based off the actual experience I do have.

You are WRONG to reference the 43-13. If you read the first page of the 43-13 it states " only when there are no manufacturer repair or maintenance instructions". Since the manufacturer of the mandrel, hose, and fittings will all have instructions on installation, it makes the 43-13 INVALID for any data. If you're an IA or AnP you really should know this. The 43-13 is a reference of LAST RESORT when there is no other data available. It is NOT a 'go to' reference of first choice.

Thank you for your input. I have made that exact statement in countless videos. When my students test at the DME for the oral and practical, he has them use the procedure in the 43.13. I know this because I know the DME. So being as I am making these types of videos for A&P students getting ready to test (per my statement in the beginning of the video) i am using the reference the DME will have them use. Also, if you read the procedure for the "hose manufacturer" or "tool manufacturers," you'll find that it mirrors the 43.13.
