thank you for this video! im a backyard flower farmer and need to incorporate my annuals with my perennials. Planning longterm 15 years out, i know we will move and need to make sure our yard will look good for the new homeowners without the annuals, while making it work for me now.

A really clear, thorough tutorial. Thank you! You have definitely helped me to think differently and more methodically (rationally vs emotionally) about what and how much to grow this coming season.

I’m starting my first year flower farming and this was what I’ve been searching for to wrap my head around all the flowers I want to grow. The next part of this is trying to understand how succession planting works with this preplanning. I’d love a video of you going into that with the current guide you just made. Thanks for sharing!

I'm glad it was helpful! I don't do a formal succession plan for most plants except sunflowers because I mainly grow cut and come again flowers. Sunflowers get a weekly succession up until the end of July. So that whole 40 foot sunflower row will get broken into 15 parts, each part planted up weekly. Keep in mind different varieties of sunflowers have different bloom times, which then also becomes a mini succession in a succession haha. Check out this guide from Johnny's: www.johnnyseeds.com/growers-library/flowers/sunflowers/sunflower-succession-planting-harvesting-program.html My informal succession planting plan is just filling in empty holes (for plants that died or didn't germinate during the initial planting) with seeds/seedlings every three weeks or so. I'll do this with cut and come again plants to keep them going since sometimes the plants can get tired towards the end of the season. :) Here's Floret's guide on succession planting: www.floretflowers.com/succession-planting-how-to-keep-the-harvest-going-all-season-long/

@@DewBloomFlowerFarm ohhh thanks for replying. I did see the one on Johnnys and started playing around with it. Sometimes it’s crazy how many amazing free resources there are. Your videos included. I’m excited to share my first real season too. Especially being here in Wyoming. So totally different climate. I’d love to trade you places. We’re looking into moving to a different growing zone.

I've learned so much from free content online! It's amazing what is out there. :) Johnny's Grower Library is one of my favorite resources. The constant rain and clouds can really wear on you here, but I don't think I'd be able to handle Wyoming's cold! Definitely a challenging environment!

May I recommend Orach mountain spinach. It’s very tall. Very prolific. Dusky leaves of pinkish purplish greenish leaves ( edible) with very long branches bearing millions of pink seeds!!!

Who would have thought, so much math in flower farming. This was an absolutely great video. I don't sell flowers, I grow them for my enjoyment. Mainly I just saw something that I liked and then would plant it. I never gave much thought to thrillers, fillers, and spillers. Thank you for sharing this info. Very helpful.

I love this video!!! I've watched it 3x to take pix with my phone lol( I love a good spreadsheet and ALL the maths - that's how my approach has been but yours brings it all together)!! I binged through all of your videos in one weekend lol when you showed up in my suggestions. Great to see a new-ish flower farmer with a full time job, take it step by step so I can apply some of what you've learned to our new farm. Thank you so much for putting the time into sharing the information. Super helpful and encouraging! 🥰

where do you find the number of stems you can get per plant? You had 7 stems estimated per zinnia plant... I definitely get more stems per zinnia plant.... I think I'm confused.

I live in a cool coastal climate in which I can grow/harvest cool flowers all summer long. Warm weather flowers don't do well for me. That's why I mention it's up to you to track how each crop does in your specific growing conditions!
