Really beautiful and great tutorial. Why would it be important for the metal wire be coated?
@FlatwareCreationSS
@FlatwareCreationSS Жыл бұрын
I like the metal coated because it gives it that extra layer of protection from the elements. It doesn’t have to be coded but that’s why I like the coated wire.

Do you suggest a special tool when it comes to bending the tines?
@FlatwareCreationSS

For a while I was just using a pair of the flat nose pliers. The little jeweler set that I had came with one. I started after that. Using my round nose pliers. The snap ring pliers with the tips cut off for working on cars. It’s really heavy duty. I’ve used the same one for eight years now I’m pretty sure there is a link in the description. that gives me nice round vans, and no sharp marks from the square nose or other pliers.

You have been very helpful. I think that I will be using getting an arbor press and start flattening spoons and forks. If you can let me know what I need and where to purchase those items that will help you out, I would be happy to do that. Things that would really make the process easier would be great.

Harbor freight has been the cheapest place to get the 1 ton arbor press. A lot of stores are out, but I have heard that they are getting more in. And Suzanne at Flatwearable.net has the kits. It completely changed the game for me get in the press, and the kit. It saved me days worth of work right off the bat.

You have been very helpful. What basic tools would I need besides the press?
@FlatwareCreationSS
@FlatwareCreationSS Жыл бұрын
@@The1shortgirl I would get a bench vice with a flat surface for hammering on. A steel ring mandrel, a mallet with both nylon and rubber heads. A Dremel tool of some sort and polishing and grinding bits. Some polishing compound. There are quite a few things that are listed in the description under all of my videos. The 1 inch belt sander, and the drill press have been huge as far as using your time wisely, and most efficiently. I hope that helps. If you still have more questions please keep asking.

@@FlatwareCreationSS I think the arbor press may be the thing for me. Which plates to help flatten would you suggest. I want to make this as easy as possible. Thanks again for being a great help to me.

@@The1shortgirl if you’re just using the arbor press and not the bending system from Flatwearable. I would say any two thick pieces of steel. One for the top and one for the bottom. Preferably both larger than a serving spoon. I have stainless steel for my bottom one and I use the bar that came in the flatwearable kit. But if I didn’t have that I would do the two pieces of steel. You might be able to find a local manufacturing company metal fabrication something like that and get scrap pieces. That should save some money.

I do a lot of tumbling so I use the Frankfurt Arsenal Tumblr. There is a link in the description. I have 60 full pieces of silverware running in it right now. I use 5 pounds of stainless steel media, which is also in the description. It’s the three shape mix. I use Dawn dish soap, but there are other kinds of abrasives and chemicals and different things that you can use to get different shines and different textures. Thank you so much for your question.

Are all your flatware creations made from sterling silver or could you make the wind chimes from stainless steel?
@FlatwareCreationSS
@FlatwareCreationSS 3 жыл бұрын
All of my wind chimes are silver plated. Some have stainless steel or brass center pieces. About 95% of my CreationSS are from silver plated silverware. The hard part about stainless is that it’s very hard to drill through. I use cobalt bits with bees wax as a lubricant. I hope that answers your questions.

I'm wondering if it would be easier to pre-bend your main forks so that tuning is easier at the end?
@FlatwareCreationSS
@FlatwareCreationSS 3 жыл бұрын
@@aimsabson6538 the sound is always different depending on the silverware used. So I just bend and curl the ends and tune after. You could pre bend the lower forks then just adjust them at the end for tuning.

Does the type of metal make a diff ??? Does it need to be annealed ???
@FlatwareCreationSS
@FlatwareCreationSS 3 жыл бұрын
I have used stainless and silver plated pieces. For both the top and hanging pieces. I don’t anneal any of them. I just bend slow and leave enough room to twist the tines. The different metals all make different sounds so experiment with them. Thank you for watching.

I have seen people cut off the blades and make dragonflies, I’ve also seen people use the silver plated solid knives to make windchimes. I have cut the handles off at an angle and solder on a copper piece or another piece of silverware to make a plant marker/ house. Lots of other ideas out there.
