If you heard about old Art Brew FL, he had the best bees. Everybody was looking to buy his bees. And he breed them always out of brood. Best out of the best. He selected them and got a great result. Never bought any queen cells or queens since Great Depression. I had honor to meet him a lot.

I do the same thing.Those 2 framers dont take much syrup to feed up for winter.Spring comes around and in March they are 5 frame nucs ready for sale.

Dave, i run multi queen colonies as a way to handle excess queens. Here's a cheap guaranteed solution to salvage 1 frame of bees. Put a piece of window screen over your primary hive. Add a Styrofoam piece to act as a rim (or use an inner cover). Then add a queen excluder. Then add a 2nd piece of window screen. Now add a medium (or deep) box and add the frame of bees +eggs. Give them some food to last 2 -3 weeks (or internal feeder). Add an inner cover. Use a piece of window screen to reduce entrance, Add a solid bottom, flipped upside down, to create a lid. After upper queen hatches, is mated and laying, remove screen and leave window screen to separate colonies. They will now feed each other. You can leave separate entrances, as the bees will defend both. If you added an internal feeder, be aware that you got to create a bee tunnel to help upper bees defend until screen can be removed. I keep meaning to do a video on thess multi queen hives. I can combine 2 different queens and their colonies simply by using window screen for a week and then queen excluder after. I have a colony with 4 queens, each on a different level. The upper 3 queen colonies were 1 -2 medium frame of bees. They were teeny swarms. They rapidly became a large colony over summer dirth, because of the layering above a strong colony while they expanded. The heat and moisture from below helped greatly.

Hi David... I made x8 Walk Away Splits, using x8 Queen Cells (made in a x5 Nuc !) Did this last week of July. All are rocking as new Colonies way to go. And YES, these are in x2 Framers !!! Fab concept.👍 Followed your Videos in April, (local Building was being retro fitted,) so their was tons of awesome Dumpster Lumber.... bits and bobs big enough for Ends, Sides, Bases and Roofs ! Easy Hammer, Nail, Paint makes... and own Bees & Queens. 👍 Will see if they build up to x5 Nucs, or combine any before Autumn (Fall) So they are good to over Winter... 👀 Thanks to you... Me being a 2nd Year Beek, having lost x3 Colonies last Winter (x2 Survived !) Had to turn it around pronto... Now have x16 Bee Hives x5 Nucs, as well as these x2 Framers... Bee-tastic. Yippee ! 😎 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 Happy Beekeeping 2022. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝 We have had an amazing Hot Summer.... days and days of 25C (78F) that's a scorcher 🔥 for us ! And it's still rained an odd night here and there. Dude I am in the same boat. I spent two years watching the removal and care videos, baby on the breast. This summer my son (six) and I joined Omaha Bee Club. They have an apiary in town. We both have gear and I am making boxes. Also ordered a full set (30) of Blue Orchard Mason bees. Making our own see-through mason houses. Also will probably attract leaf cutters. Im going to make a diverse house. Im loving being a Mom, mostly now that I can communicate and teach and talk to my child. Let me tell you. I have two children, and they were each on the breast for two years straight. Thats a lot of investment. I can relate heavily with the Queen bee. Her whole life is making children. Personally, I think humans should live this way as well. Mothers allive together with their female family and friends. Men live in their own village. War games. Battles. Etc.

David, i don t see any drone around so is it worth doing a walk away split that late in the season? We had such a hot and dry weather that the drone disappeared early july this year.

Maybe late for the north but still early enough here in the south. July-August queens do really well during the winter and start laying full force in the spring

Anibis... You could make Splits, but you have no Drones for Mating.... So buy in some Queens from a Breeder, or maybe you have a local Bee Club, who might sell you some spare Queens. Not over, until the season is over... 😎

Very interesting but got lost in the procedure. You pointed to a third hive that confused me. Did you transfer a frame with the queen from the 5 frame hive to the two frame hive plus a second frame with brood ? Than the 5 frame will be queen less and will make an emergency queen cell. is this the procedure you try to explain ? i am a beginner. Thanks

No he took a frame with the queen on it, so he knows there's freshly laid eggs there, he remove the queen and place her back on a frame in her 5 frame nuk, he then placed the frame of bees mixed brood and eggs in the 2 frame nuk which that frame has lots of nurse bees which you need to make and feed an emergency queen cell (smoking them is OK most times, I'd probably sprayed em with a little bit of light sugar syrup so they're busy licking it off till they realize they're queenless and go together to make a queen, but all well), then he added the shakened frame from the 2 nuk to 5 nuk because 2nuk needed all it's bees and he wanted reduce the population of the 5 nuk, as he said what do you have to loose, nothing because you'll still have the bees, if they make a queen and she's mated ok he's got free laying queen that can pull the 2 framer up to a 5 framer that overwinter fine with some resources, if a dragonfly catches the virgin queen on her mating flights, all the bees are still there, which then I'd double stack them in 5 over 5 configuration til spring buildup and watch for swarm cells then maybe make 2 more splits off this and have 3 strong 5 frame nuks ready to sell by April.

@@catchannel4421 You're most welcome, I try to help beginners as much as I can because I remember back when I was a beginner and all I had to refer to was L.L. Langstrogh's Hive and the Honeybee. I hope my explanation was helpful and detailed enough, because you only understand bees by reading them as constantly as possible. I'm allover the place, reading bee channels and still learning myself, you try to guess bees, you can never predict bees, that only comes with time and bee experiences.
