Audio on the collar is so incredibly important, and I'm so glad you mentioned the importance of good clear audio. It's very simple and so many people neglect this: what's being recorded has to be close to the mic.

Learned a few tips here. I am putting together a product review and I am trying to take it a little more serious. So I started with riding around on my motorcycle to help introduce what I wanted to say and since I was riding around, it helps to waste the time a little instead of standing in front of my motorcycle for 20 seconds. You can imagine the awkwardness that would be like. I don't want to be in the video since I'm doing a product review however, I have learned some important skills. First I started with writing it down for key things to speak. Introduction, what I want to review, maybe a quick story under 15 seconds, and some more points but literally writing it down on my phone is very helpful. Since I'm not using my phone to record, I can read off of it. But after recording only Audio of my voice, there's times when you can tell I'm reading so that's not good. Instead I go back and try to break it up and create pauses here and there with emphasis of certain words and creating a natural character. After recording audio of how and what I want to say, it makes video easy because you know what you're going to say so you can just listen to what you recorded and follow along recording the video of exactly what you want to record. Because no one likes people starting at one thing while you speak about it for upwards of 20-30 seconds. And timing is key because of that so people only want down and dirty quick 2-5 minute videos. It's definitely a learning experience!

Keep videos short, simple. And entertaining. No dead space, no dead air. Make them hit point to point, subject to subject. Keep cool things happening so they don’t get bored and make sure the viewer gained from watching it.

As an avid KZbin viewer, I agree on your key points! I have left so many videos because of bad sound quality and or lighting. Starting out though, I know that I wasn't aware how important these elements were.

Found you guys on YT after having the crazy idea of wanting to start my own channel. I want to start out the right way and your channel has been very helpful. If everyone else followed your advice on how to make great videos with useful content, then we'd have a lot less "trashy" videos on here. Keep it up guys! Thumbs up!

I love the tip about deciding the purpose of your video ahead of time. One thing that has also been really helpful to me in planning the video is planning ahead of time and being intentional about what my intro and outro are going to contain. I think it's really effective when KZbinrs introduce themselves and their channel at the beginning of their video for any new subscribers or viewers. It's much easier to have that planned going into your video than trying to wing an outtro on the fly!

Love this video, but I think the most important message I got out of it is just to keep going and keep trying, and to keep bettering your channel and videos. Sometimes its easy to feel defeated on KZbin but we just have to stay motivated and try to improve our channels.

I think it's important to always have a "call to action" at the end of your videos. Do you want people to comment? Like? Subscribe? Visit your blog? Your website? Your online store? What do you want them to do? It's all about engaging your viewers to want to do more and see more. I'm learning this as I go. That's the thing about KZbin videos/channels, you're always evolving, hopefully for the better. Enjoying your awesome videos! I've learned a lot and still have a lot to learn! ~ Pat :)

***** I've found that CTAs work better for my in the beginning and mid-way through the videos. In the oversaturated beauty community where everything has become so professionally done, if my review video does not capture my audience in the first 10-15 seconds the remaining 3 - 4 minutes is a bust.
@PatsTreasuresNCrafts9 жыл бұрын
***** Thanks for the insight. That makes sense. I'm in the crafting community, which isn't as popular as the beauty community, but it is over saturated with people doing the same thing. I'll try your advice and see how it goes! Thanks again :)

You've said this before, but I want to remind people that 'voice' is important. I click away from a boring, almost monotone voice. They put me to sleep. I love someone who's talking to me, or laughing at little mistakes they make, or (at least) sounding like they're alive. :-)

Great info! Are you guys planning on becoming KZbin-certified? I like your mix of info and interviews. And I agree with the learning by doing - so true. My tip is to be consistent - same day (even time) upload, same duration - eg 2 minute quick tip, 15 min vlog, 5 min how to - subscribers know when and what to expect. I actually look forward to channels who upload the same time every week/day, and I know I can grab a cup of coffee or wash dishes or whatever while I watch or just listen. I appreciate your hard work!

Cool stuff guys! One of the big issues I am still working on fixing is getting a windscreen to work on the point and shoot cameras for outside shooting. Our Canon G-10 has the nice windscreen digital setting, plus the stick on windscreens, that work well. But, unfortunately the powershot we have, has the mic right near the lens. It is hard to fit the stick on windscreen there. Still working on it and will let you know if I get a good solution!

If you really want to start recording, but you are nervous, just record and put something out. if you keep putting out content even though not many people view it, you will learn alot and develop yourself from experience. if you think your content is bad, then think of all the reasons why and learn ways to change it in future content :)

Thank you for your great tips. One question please .. For me, the most challenging part is the audio. In my place, it's really hard to find a quiet place. I record my videos outdoor .. there are so much noises; cock, bugs, birds and wind. So, it takes so long for me just to record a 5 minute video. How can I reduce those noises?

I think it;s useful to be private, intimate, make connection with audience but also give energy(be energetic) . That's i guess part of performing in the video, not really technical video quality but i guess it's important.

Here is a sort of odd question. I've been on KZbin for a while now with close to 500 videos. The channel traditionally was pointed towards how-to and information. Nothing great, but that was its angle. I've recently started vlogging after seeing videos from Casey, Louis and Judy (my wife is a big fan). Should I start a separate channel to get away from this current one? If not, should I change this username? Its my nickname, but it ends up being more confusing than anything these days when trying to get the word out. Thank you!!!
