2 things I’d like to say. You can’t beat Kraft singles for a grilled cheese the old fashioned way. The other is to dash a little garlic salt or powder on to the bread after it’s buttered. It will step the game up a notch
@inthekitchenwithmatt7 ай бұрын
Nah, haha, Kraft singles are so gross. In my opinion. I ate it all the time growing up, but once you discover the vast world of other cheeses available, Kraft singles pales in comparison. Garlic is always a good idea!

But to further embellish, I have been doing this for a long time as a full-time career, and I know the particular audience that I want to serve. (my most popular video with over 6 million views is over 15 minutes long) With that said, I go back to my older videos and create 2 more versions. A 1-minute short video, and then a 3-minute length one, which indeed cuts out all the exposition, and explanation. Hi again Matt. A simple grilled cheese sandwich and not Duck Breasts with Apricot Chutney dinner for 6 people ! Simple is everyday yummy and a grilled cheese sandwich is just that. I asked you last time if there is an appreciable difference between a basket air fryer and a oven type air fryer and you didn't think there was. With today's topic I just want to mention that making a grilled cheese sandwich in my oven type air fryer there is no need to flip the sandwich. I will admit that one side is ever so slightly lighter but toasted well enough to merit a prize ! I would be curious to know if your other followers have found a difference between the two types of air fryers. I've been thinking of up grading the air fryer. Thanks, enjoyed your presentation and now I'm off to the kitchen for a grilled cheese !

@@inthekitchenwithmatt "Real California Cheese"????? Remember that Wisconsin IS the Dairy State" LOL (just some friendly rivalry on my part). Widmer's is sold throughout California - Bristol Farms, Whole Foods, New leaf, Lazy Acres to name a few. Joe carries on Widmer’s traditional Brick production-to the tune of 360,000 pounds a year. He still uses the same open vats in the 12,000 square-foot facility that his grandfather bought in 1922. And he still uses the same well-worn bricks that his grandfather used to press the whey from the cheese in the forms. In fact, he’s credited as being the ONLY cheesemaker in the country to continue to use real bricks as part of the make procedure.

There's pro's and cons with this airfryer method. I've done both stovetop frying pan and airfry. Griddle Pan fried toasties have that pan fry flavour and grill line marks, whereas the airfry just has a toasted butter flavour. Both are good, but my preference is the pan. And if you cook bacon first for the toastie, the bacon grease adds even more flavour to the toastie. My favourite is bacon, cheese and onion. I'll tell you what's really nice, is fruit loaf (bread) toastie. You can use a mild easy melting cheese or cream cheese. Be careful though, fruit loaf can burn very easily. Cheers mate 🤤👍😀🇦🇺

Mine does not have a different function, it only is an air fryer. It has two knobs one for the temp and one for the time that is it. You will just have to experiment with yours. @inthekitchenwithmatt Жыл бұрын
It depends on your air fryer. The kind I have is simple, it is just an air fryer. It has a setting for Temperature and a setting for time and that is it. If you have a combo, then there should be an "air fryer" setting. As well as a time and temp setting.
@jeanluby4636 Жыл бұрын
@@inthekitchenwithmatt ok then setting on mine would be air fry seems nothing turns out for me.
@inthekitchenwithmatt Жыл бұрын
@@jeanluby4636 It sounds like you just need a bit more practice using it. Try this exact recipe, it is a very simple air fryer recipe.

I don't get the butter? If you were to make a regular grilled cheese then that's fine, but one of the reasons to use an air fryer is to avoid fatty foods
@inthekitchenwithmatt Жыл бұрын
It is for flavor. You con't have to use butter if you don't want to.

I have been stealing myself to try this for some time. Ever since I was puzzled as to why, on a George Forman Grill thingy they said to put the buttered side of the bread on the outside and the cheese in the middle when I have always done it the opposite way, although my preferred way is to toast the bread (in a Toaster) butter the slice and place the cheese (on the same, already toasted side) then stick it under the Grill (i.e. Grilled Cheese) untill it melts then stick the other slice of toast (buttered side towards the cheese) on top. I always assumed that the butter was a way of applying a non-stick coating to the grill plates although my ancient Electric Grill never needed that. This has always seemed to me to be a Cheese on Fried Bread recipe. However I will give it a go in the Air Fryer, evenually.
@inthekitchenwithmatt2 жыл бұрын
Definitely try it sometime. Most grilled cheese recipes have the butter or even mayo on the outside.
@jamesgoacher16062 жыл бұрын
@@inthekitchenwithmatt I have since realised that there is a conflict of English use involved. Grill may not mean the same to an English person compared to an American (USA type). So I have been comparing uSA grilled (fried bread and cheese) to Britsh Cheese on Toast. I like fried bread, but both sides so I may give this a go.

Just a curious question: why do you have to put it with the buttered side on top/bottom? I tried with ham and cheese but put the buttered sides on the inside and result was reasonable so maybe your way works better?

Because that is how you get the classic grilled cheese taste it should always be done on the outside of the bread. :) Next time try it this way and see the difference.

@inthekitchenwithmatt11 ай бұрын
It depends on the air fryer, in mine, you don't need to. If you have the kind that looks like a little mini oven, then yes, preheat for 2 to 3 minutes first. Although, it will probably be fine without preheating it.

It works fine every time I do it which has been many many times. You need to adjust the heat lower then in your air fryer. Every air fryer is different. What temp did you use and were you using F or C? Lower it by 25 F next time.

Butter side down? You had butter side up towards you.
@inthekitchenwithmatt Жыл бұрын
The first slice that goes down on the actual air fryer is butter side down, you want the buttered side actually touching the air fryer. The top slice is butter side up.
