My trick to "hard-boil" eggs is to place them in the steamer insert that came with my rice cooker, when I'm cooking a batch of white rice (20-ish minutes). At the end of the cycle when the rice is done, so are the eggs.

I can cook the perfect egg in boiling water, and after 10 to 12 minutes would have removed the eggs and placed in a ice water bath. Now, after you cook the eggs this way, wouldn't the ice water bath work as well to stop the cooking process? I also find it easier to peel eggs after a ice bath.
