Whipped this up in 4 hours. Had problems with how wide ( left to right) to make front neck. So I have a pucker. Was a lot of math. HA! Put pockets on. YAY! Lots of Japanese apron DIYs but yours was exactly what I wanted. Didn’t want to sew straps on separately. Thank you.

Thank you, this was most helpful. My (adult) daughter has been asking for this type of apron for over a year. Your directions about measurements were just what I needed. I had the good luck to find some fabric remaindered at a mere £2 a metre, so I took the risk of drawing the design straight onto the wrong side of the fabric and skipped the newspaper stage. Putting it on reminded me of getting entangled in a deck chair, but once it was on my daughter was delighted!

Made this today, love this apron. Though I struggled with the measurements for the pattern, I managed to get the pattern figured out. Trust me, that pattern is so beat up but, if I can laminate it, so it shall be. But that's because I am terrible with measurements. I'm sure real sewists will have no problem-->I'm so jealous of you right now. Man, did I struggle, aargh! You know the meme of throwing the computer out the window and screaming or the one beating the cell phone with the shoe, mmm hmm, that was me, so this pattern will NEVER EVER be thrown out. It's going in the "good dishes" cabinet wrapped in plastic. All of that to say, I really love it. Once I got through all of that, it took, maybe a half hour to complete, making it about 1 hour, cutting, ironing and sewing, but I'm sure a real sewist will whip this thang out in no time --> show offs. How I wish I had real sewing skills.
@TodayweCraft4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! In hindsight I appreciate my measurements were, at times, less than crystal clear so I do apologise for that. Laminating the pattern is a great idea, I may just steal it lol. Never apologise fo being a beginner. I remember when I was first learning and nothing I made seemed to come out right. With perseverance you will be a master in no time!

The fact that Japanese ladies wear these every day these days over in Japan and the style has taken on the name is all...this pattern is from Italy, circa 1200, like 7 centuries old now that we know of...its in a book from 1205 AD....it’s in almost every culture and country of the world as it’s a very usable pattern! but currently very popular in Japan..hence its “Japanese” this last few decades ...I’m sure we’ve all seen it before 🥰

I've watched many apron tutorials and your is by far the best one for its simplicity and how much space you have allowed for the crossover in the back. Absolutely, loved this,as I went to purchase this type of pattern ( I decided I am OVER strings!) Anyway this was 22 U.S. dollars, And I would rather spend that on some lovely fabric! ...So instead, I had planned on making my own pattern out of leftover christmas paper and figuring out my own numbers!... but you saved me the trouble, ...I will put pockets on mine for sure,as I feel lost without a good old pocket!...I sort of gather the top of the pocket a bit and make it almost pouch like,for all the bits and bobbles,that Seem to make it in there in any given day! ...not to mention my cell phone, my to do list,a couple of Kleenex, maybe a found key,, a peppermint,a safety pin and of course a quarter or two,to pull out of a grandchild's ear! Ha!Ha! ....Did you say total yardage,and I forgot already?...I will rewatch to make sure...Thanks again!

I'd like to see a video on how you create the block/template. How to get all the curves in. Also the video mentions a measurement of hip to shoulder but it looks like it is waist to shoulder, is that right?
@TodayweCraft5 жыл бұрын
Hi Petrik. That's a great idea! The apron is kinda one size fits all so it sort of depends on where you would like the apron to hang to in order to decide weather to go for a hip or waist measurement. I prefer to be able to reach down through the opening to get to my pockets so I like it to slouch a little more. The pattern works the same weather you decide to go fo a waist or hip measurement. Hope that helps! x
