I have this pattern, and I love it! I took the extra time to trace the pattern onto a big sheet of tissue paper. For the pockets, I created lined pockets by cutting 8 pocket pieces instead of 4, placed these pieces right sides together, folded the hem back for the top, and then sewed all around leaving an opening to turn the pocket right side out. All the usual-clipped the seams and corners before turning, pressed flat, and I added two rows of topstitching across the top hem. Pin into place, and topstitch, making sure to close that opening where the pocket was turned. Takes a tad more work and fabric for those extra pocket pieces, but I think the pockets feel better when I put my hands in them. They feel sturdier, and no interfacing should be needed. I wear this apron around the house, mainly for the pockets! 😄

I also have this pattern and have been making them for my friends and family! I’m on number 87! Got the kids pattern and have made several of those, however I added an extra 3” to the hem, per the preschool teachers request! Makes sense for littles!

It’s much easier to fuse the fabric to the interfacing BEFORE cutting out the pocket. Trying to exactly line up pieces cut separately is a recipe for getting the adhesive on your iron and ironing board.

I have fabric with a right and wrong side. When cutting out the patterns, do I have the right side of the fabric folded in or should it be showing and I lay the pattern on top of it?

If you don't have interfacing, just use another piece of scrap fabric. That's what my Grandma always did!
@Jen-CelticWarrior5 ай бұрын
That’s what I did-the pockets feel better with the fabric interfacing (instead of the iron on interfacing) when my hands are in there.

What is a “hold hem” and how is this made? I don’t understand the instructions in the pattern for that. Wish I’d watch the videos before I went ahead. One down, two more to go. Cute apron.

Love this for mothers day gift! So, how about adding a small kitchen towel in front for a modification? I love having a small towel to wipe my hands while I'm cooking. Any ideas? I'm a newbie to sewing and just teaching myself from your helpful and creative videos.

Love this for a Mother's Day gift! What a great idea! I love your idea about the hand towel. I wonder what would work best... maybe sticking with the pattern; however, substituting the lower part of the pattern with a towel or---what I think may work better would be to include a loop sticking out of the side seam where you can attach a towel. I love the towels that have a little button at the top. You would normally put it around your oven door bar, or something along those lines, but you could totally adapt it for your apron! I love that you are thinking about new ways to use this pattern. If you haven't joined our Facebook page yet - Sewing Parts Online - I would love it if you joined us. There, we share pictures and ideas with our sewing community. Great ideas are always shared! :)

I was surprised not to see instructions in the packet. This video is a great help. My question- Can I make this unlined or will it not hang correctly?
@SewingPartsOnline Жыл бұрын
You could hack the pattern to just be one-sided. It should hang fine; it just won't be reversible. I'm glad that you enjoyed the tutorial. :)

I am making this reversible apron today and want to sew the bottom to close it. Will this make the apron not lay flat or make it wonky somehow or do you recommend not sewing it closed? I am thinking maybe large ric rac on the bottom and on the pocket tops, too.

How do you get this pattern to wrap around your sides and your back a little bit? Seems to only fit really skinny people the correct way. And the few adjustments I have tried didn’t change it at all :(

I'm just curious. In the clip where you top stitch the cross-bands together, it looks like you are using a wooden tool of some sort to help guide the apron on the sewing machine. What is that, and do you recommend it?

YES! It's honestly one of our favorite tools and we use it nearly every day actually. www.sewingpartsonline.com/4-in-1-essential-sewing-tool.aspx

How fo you fit the center bans in they are the same size & I did trim before?
@SewingPartsOnline Жыл бұрын
I inserted mine about 1/2" or so; however, it will vary depending on your size. I usually insert it and pin it, try on the apron and see if I need to adjust it at all. If it's too tight, I take it out a bit, repin and try it on again. Same goes if it is too loose. I don't suggest trimming it until you know how far you will be inserting it. In my example, I just inserted it 1/2" and did not trim. I hope this helps.

When I attach the crisscross bands…they are the same width. When I insert one 1/2” it doesn’t want to lay flat. Have I cut something wrong?

@SewingPartsOnline Жыл бұрын
You sure don't! A serger is quicker; however, you can totally do it with just your sewing machine. You could finish the edges with a zig zag stitch or an overcast stitch. 😊

Probably a dumb question from a beginner, when you are pinning the pattern on the fabric, are the two wrong sides facing each other or is the fabric facing the same direction? 🤦🏼♀️

Don't pre-wash if you want to get the pockets and back straps from the one yard of fabric. I had a piece I had already washed and dried, so I did the same with the other piece. When I laid out the pattern there was not enough room for the ties. Otherwise, I like this apron.
