I have bought many of your patterns over the last year. One I even bought twice by mistake. And I have always wondered why you don’t print the leather weight on the print out. I know you encourage people to watch the video but sometimes I don’t see the it. Thank you for the great work.

@DieselpunkRo
@DieselpunkRo 5 жыл бұрын
Hi I recommend 5/6 oz leather. Nothing heavier I use 1mm waxed synthetic thread for 1.5 hole punchers. You can go up to 1.2 mm thread but make the holes with a 1.8/2 mm puncher My needles are 7 cm long

I just made the "Corset" Hat. used 4-5 oz leather on it... I would think the 6 oz, might be a little too stiff. But I like Hats not so stiff. that they feel heavy. I'll buy the pattern and try making it also out of 4-5 oz... doesn't use much... 2021 prices, maybe $30 worth of leather. Good experiment. Worst case... I've killed a day.

Is there any reason why you didn't line the seams up on the brim to the hat? Just asking because I am new to leather crafting and would have done it differently out of ignorance, with the thought that then they would both be in the back unseen for the most part, instead of having the hat seam in the back and the brim seam on the side.

I'm NOT a hatter, but, would it not be better if you crease the brim band (the piece that goes around the brim and holds the wire) before hand? Crease it down the center while flat and put weight or clamps on it to make the creases permanent ? Also, when attaching the brim to the crown, I think I would place a plastic bag of dried beans in for weight and to hold it in shape. ( Just some thoughts I had!)
