Gemstone Beads, Meditation, and Style! Nothing is more gorgeous than a beaded Mala Necklace. Here's our video tutorial on how to make one for yourself.

Supplies to Make a Mala Necklace:
108 Gemstone Beads (It can be any kind - we used Turquoise & Rose Quartz)
1 Larger Gemstone Bead (Guru Bead)
Embroidery Thread
110 inches Nylon Thread (We used Size 4)
E6000
Tools:
Scissors
Needle Nose Pliers
Helpful: A Ruler to Measure the Length of the Thread
Get a Mala Necklace Kit and Make Your Own Here: tidd.ly/3f6jQEa
Follow the Video Tutorial for all the steps! Here's a quick summary. Cut your length of nylon thread - 110 inches. Fold your thread in half and use a balloon knot to tie a knot around 1.5 inches above the halfway fold line. This will leave a small length at the end for the tassel.
Add the guru bead and then tie a knot on the other side of the guru bead to hold it into place. Place a bead on one side of the guru bead and add a knot afterward to hold the bead into place. Repeat that 54 times on each side! That will be 108 beads total.
Once all your beads are in place, the tassel comes next! Wrap embroidery thread around a small piece a cardboard at least 10 - 20 times. How many times will determine how thick your tassel is. Now cut the embroidery thread on one side and wrap the whole thing with a bit of extra thread.
We added a dab of glue just to be sure this tassel is nice and strong!

This was such a helpful tutorial, thank you so much! I am wondering if you have one or a recommendation on how to put on an already made tassel. I have a ton and would love to know how to attach them....thank you!

The tassel in this video is actually a separate piece! Here is where you can see the tassel in greater detail.kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJ2ogHuIg6t3fbs The trick for a necklace: attach the tassel with a thin, small, tightly knotted thread to the bead above it. For earrings: metal jump rings work well. It is best to use the same material to attach the tassel as you are using to complete the piece. Metal jump ring with metal earring posts. Thread with threaded mala necklace.

It's a pretty necklace,but the title is misleading. A traditional mala is not made with tools or glue. And if proper technique is utilized, you can make/attach the tassel simply by knotting. Once again, it is a lovely piece of jewelry. Nice colors.

Hi. Do you find the glue holds the two sides of beads together well? I’ve made a couple of malas and tied them at the end the same way but a bit of a pull and they come apart

I've recently made my first Mala wrap, using hemp thread, following this tutorial. Thank you for this video! I was pretty proud of how tight most of the knots were against the beads. But I have a couple questions. I've only been wearing it on my wrist for two days and I've noticed that every bead now has some wiggle room between knots. Is this only an issue with hemp? Were my knots possibly not tight enough?

🙏Namaste🙏 How i know what color to use, is any rule or meaning to use a type of color or color's in particular?? Please can you answer my qyestion if you have a chance?? Because i pick color Blue for a dream of two color's mix i been have, and maybe that have a meaning, but i can be wrong or don't go with me in any particular way?? I been attract by color blue in particular, but maybe i can add other colors, like turquoise, ground or soil color, pink, white, amethyst, wood and gold... 🙏🙏🙏
@PopshopamericaForever
@PopshopamericaForever 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you could pick based on color - but I would consider the gemstone's meaning. For example I used turquoise which represents wisdom, protection, and tranquility. I like to think about these properties while I'm creating the mala.

What is the thread thickness, may I ask?
@PopshopamericaForever
@PopshopamericaForever 6 жыл бұрын
Great question. It's called "Size 4" If you could find a number higher than 4 that will work too. Don't use 2 - it's too thick!
