How to Make Mala Beads with The Weekend Mystic

Learn how to make mala beads to help you focus intention in your daily meditation practice. Choose gemstone beads to channel specific energy, and a guru bead to remind you of your lesson/intention.
There are a few ways to construct mala mediation beads, but this is the beading method I use most frequently. For this project, you'll need 108 beads (I prefer to use 8mm round beads made from gemstones or aromatic wood), a guru or focal bead, and one package of 0.8mm Griffin silk cord with a prethreaded wire needle. A pair of tweezers and a mala beading board are also very helpful.

Not generally, no. It's the "guru" bead -- a nod to your teacher or the intention. 😊

Counting goes much quicker if you count out 4 piles.....of 27. Quicker than poop thru a goose.

Most of the time I recommend 0.8mm Griffing silk, not doubled. If you're using doubled cord, you'll want to go 0.45mm or thereabouts.
