Just FYI, fewer coils means more power. The more coils, the more spring 'area' (for lack of knowledge of the technical term) there is to concentrate the energy in, and it becomes more dispersed. Fewer coils means more concentrated energy, and more 'explosive' response. Hopefully that makes sense, and is useful to you.

Great video! Just last night I found a small purple (under 2" blade) auto in my closest, and the action was terrible, so I did some maintenance and now smooth like butter!
@petearon10278 жыл бұрын
That model Schrade is _not_ already milled to receive a coil spring if you're trying to convert it into an automatic. The part of the frame that needs to be removed can be seen in the video between 2:55 and 3:00 minutes. A rotary tool and a grinding bit can be used to remove the excess aluminum quickly and then the spring can be added without having to cut it down and bend it, etcetcetc. Once done properly the knife works very well and has a hard, solid kick when deployed.

do you know if this can be down with the gerber propel down range?

I wouldn't know first-hand, Michael, but switchbladekits.com sells the parts you'd need to convert one to automatic. Here's a link: www.switchbladekits.com/index.php?l=product_list&m=12

The coil springs are actually easy to make. You make them on a lathe using piano wire and a spring arbor. Run the lathe just like you're making threads as it wraps around the spring arbor.
@MattTyrrell10 жыл бұрын
Or just buy a handful cheap online...
@ApeFahrenheit10 жыл бұрын
Because everyone just has piano wire, a spring arbor and a lathe laying around...
@drunkinmaster110 жыл бұрын
You are correct. You can always buy some springs for fairly cheap because that is the easy way. But some people ( like myself ) enjoy doing things myself. Btw, piano wire is not expensive. You can use a cordless drill instead of a lathe. A spring arbor is simply a piece of round stock with a hole drilled.
@thewolfchild8 жыл бұрын
+drunkinmaster1 Well, since you can't make cordless drills by yourself (and enjoy doing so), we're back to just buying a couple of cheap springs online...

+Joseph Woble LOL! You _must_ be joking, right? That Schrade is about 25 bucks and the spring is $1. You want him to send you a "good knife" (how about a Marfione Custom Sigil SS T/D?) for *free* so you can "make videos", yet you can afford a computer, internet access, a video camera, tools, medication, etc., etc. ...nice try, chump.
@pathfinderLXXIV9 жыл бұрын
I'm confused. It looks to me like you converted an auto knife into... an auto knife. The Schrade you put the spring into already had the channel in the handle, hole in the blade, and button. It WAS an auto knife. If you put a spring into a regular folder then you're converting something. Still a good video to be able to see how the internals on an auto knife look.

You know this really wasn't a conversion man. This is more how to install a new spring if your old one brakes brakes. @Jeremy-ql1or8 жыл бұрын
+83RBurke The springs from clothespins and chip-clips won't work for this kind of knife as they are too small. They actually work for the FB humpback coils and the older KC humpbacks (although, you have to go through a lot of chip-clips to find the right size one). You can get a coil like the one in the video from a number of different supply sites. I think Jantz has them. If not, send them a message and ask them where to get one.

I live in Norway, I own a lot of nunchakus, shurikens, butterfly knives and other spring-assisted knives. I'm not gonna carry any of those around, so there's no reason to be afraid of the law. The rules surrounding knives and other weapons are just fucked up, on many levels. The only somewhat ''valid'' reason why butterfly-knives and spring assisted knives are non-legal to posess, is that they can be opened with one hand... But, holy anally-raped nugget, I can open non-assisted folding knives with one hand, and I don't even need to open up a kitchen knife! I got pockets long enough to put a kitchen knife in, I just need some duct-tape, and I'm ready to go!
