Is 1/4 oz of orange bitters too much? No. Also, I personally know the folks at North Shore Distillery who make the Scofflaw Old Tom Gin and they're good people - support them if you're in the area! Time stamps in the description! (And let me know how you make your martinez!) 🍸

You are right, the best is to go with your favourite bitters or at least using the right proportions to taste(which would definitely be as per a person's taste).. I had tried Fee Brother's some time back and I messed it up.. Maybe I added too much.. I avoided any kind of orange bitters for next few weeks until a friend talked me into experimenting it all again...And it was all good (which means I actually messed up the proportions in my first try). Btw I used 1/4 oz too this time.. was not too much!.

Is is valid to replace the orange bitters, or angostura bitters for something else as campari or something of the sort? Thank you. Love your videos

Best Martinez recipe I've found for this magic cocktail. The 1/4oz bitters is genius and pairs very well, never would've thought to try that. FYI I used Botanist gin, don't have an Old Tom (yet), this worked like a charm and tasted better than Beefeater, but not night/day better

Not only is your channel really interesting, it's also fun to watch! I love the humour, the spontaneity, and sometimes the little cringe! I make my Martinez with 50 vermouth del Professore, 30 Old Tom gin and 2 dashes of decanter bitters. So mine is definitely a vermouth- based cocktail. I'm wondering if you'd like to try it and what you think?

Martinez was the first-named Capitol of the State of California in 1850. This lasted until 1854 when the pull of Gold from the Sierras moved the Capitol to Sacramento. Bitchin drink, I think I'll make one tonight.

I live in Oakland near Martinez, CA. I am always looking for classic cocktails from the area to give a try. I don't like Gin, but there are some cocktails I like with [Scottish] Hendrink's Gin. So, I used Hendrick's Gin with Antica Turino Vermouth: I thought this vermouth would express the fruitiness I was looking for. Final cocktail has become a favorite of mine, for which I'm now a proselytizer! 2 oz Hendrick's Gin 1 oz Antica Vermouth di Turino 1/2 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur 3 dashes Angostura Bitters Garnish: Orange peel Wow. Thanks Anders

I used dry gin and it was plenty sweet enough, though I also used carpano antica for the vermouth, don't know how that compares to the cocchi. One could also use dry gin and add a bit of syrup if desired. I just had Regan's orange bitters and added a little shy of .25 ounces, but a good amount. It was a very good drink and unexpectedly harmonious.

So I tried this tonight. I used London dry gin (Bombay sapphire, because we've had this bottle forever, not a bug gin drinker.....maybe until now...) Dolin sweet vermouth ( what I had....going through this, might try the Cocchi next time) instead of Fee bros bitter (I have Regans) I used a half bar spoon if orange curacao and a couple dashes if the regans. And the luxardo. Very tasty!

I am really enjoying this channel! I realized after watching this that I had 90% of the ingredients on hand (I used a tiny 1/8 oz /splash of Cointreau instead of about 1/8 of an ounce of the bitters, as all I have are Angostura orange bitters (which I dutifully used). I also used an Oroblanco (grapefruit) in place of the Lemon and that peel/zest worked very nicely as a garnish to accent the orange without over-powering the rest of the drink.

This is my favorite cocktail that I have to teach to every bartender I have ever ordered it from, I swear I'm gonna tip 100% if a bartender can ever make one of these without my help. The recipe I have memorized for teaching bartenders is: 2 oz Gin (I usually have to settle for Tanqueray) 1 oz Sweet Vermouth 1/4 oz Maraschino 3 dashes of Boker's Bitters Garnish with lemon or cherry At home I usually make them with my favorite Japanese Gin, "Roku," I really like the added dimensions that I get from its botanicals.

Thanks for introducing me to another tasty cocktail, Anders. I've made the martinez with both Old Tom gin (I bought Scofflaw) and London dry gin. I think I prefer it with London dry gin. The Old Tom is nice but it makes the cocktail a little too sweet for my taste. But it's wonderful in a gin and tonic. Thanks again.

Went to North Shore Distillery. It was very nice and I picked up a bottle of No. 11 (it take the juniper to 11 per the bartender there) and a bottle of Scofflaw. I made a Martinez with equal gin and vermouth. I was too scared to do all that bitters. I didn't like it too much. tonight I did 2oz gin, 1.5oz vermouth, teaspoon of Maraschino Liqueur, and 4 dashes of bitters. It was much better that way.

Might be the Old Tom I found, Hayman's, but the drink was a little sweet for me. Maybe could try it with the Punt e Mes instead of the Cocchi, or perhaps dry gin (or split the Old Tom with something proofier). Flavors are excellent, mind you, just a tad sweet for me.

Definitely. The old tom works so well in this drink. Thanks, Carl!

It's so overwhelming! There are thousands of cocktails, at least 10 different recipes for all of them, with different ratios, very different brands... How am I gonna make sense of all this?

My desert island cocktail! Enjoyed your build quite a bit, but have you tried it with Boker’s Bitters? Something about the extra cardamon brings the aromatics and florals out of the old tom gin, and the funk out of the maraschino. And totally agreed on the lemon-the brightness is much appreciated. And agreed-way better than either a Martini or Manhattan!

Yes!! Love the Martinez. As I'm sure you know since I told you on the GRAM. Outrageous to put 1/2 oz of bitters in it though! That's like putting 1oz or more of Angostura in a cocktail. Going to get Fee Brothers ahora.
