As a man that grew up in a woodworkshop as a family job, that still keeps it as a hobby and with a flautist/composer wife by my side i cannot streess it enough how good your work, your channel and your will to share and teach about this music and world is. I ve done several pieces and diferent kinds of instrument to my wife to use them and spread knowledge and music with em and her pieces and i would love to use your knowledge and this kind of instrument to keep doing it if thats ok. I was wonder if its possible to do this walking stick flute easily with the drone one as well (as i saw in several places both in the same stick and with two blow holes togheter). If this reachs to you ill be glad to read any tip or advice. thanks so much for the channel and keep the good work. warm hugs from canary islands

Easy is a matter of perspective! Thanks so much for your kind words. I hope to make a video on my drone walking stick flute, however from my perspective, I feel like they are more trouble than they are worth. Fun to make and to play but the simplicity of the ordinary flute is enough for me! 🙂

another great video. That is a beautiful sounding walking stick. Have you ever tried the horizontal bee hives. They are amazing for very busy people or us older ones. You never have to lift any heavy boxes and are very easy to work with. Love your videos. Hope you have classes coming up in North Florida. Please keep making videos for us.

Loved the video! My only question is about the block that you tie on. How does that allow air into the bottom part of the flute if it’s covering the top hole? Do you put a groove on the bottom of it or something?

Thank you for sharing the knowledge... Yes said something about using 3/8" burning rod for tuning sound holes? I've been having trouble with tuning using the 1/4" burning rods... Of course I've made a branch flute and I'm thinking I need to make the figure holes bigger 1" bore and the other flute is 1.5" bore... Should my track be wider by how much... ...
@BlueBearFlutes4 жыл бұрын
Just as a general rule of thumb, an inside diameter of 1 in should be about a 5/16 inch wide sound hole. Fingerings should be somewhere around 5/16 inch. You will need to adjust for tuning purposes. All this aside, it of course depends on the pattern you use. I hope this helps some. 🙂
@ilonahoffmann6653 жыл бұрын
Hi Charlie, I've already made a few flutes with your instructions and I'm happy about it. In this video I didn't understand the dimensions between the soundhole and the end ... Can you please tell me the dimensions again :-) Thanks for all...
@tomcartmill4014 жыл бұрын
Hey Charlie. The way you reach the lower holes is great, is that a pipers grip you use to cover them. Meaning do you cover the holes with the second joint of your fingers? I am one of those people who love the lower flutes. Not great at covering the holes, but love the sound they create. Yes, another great video. Thank you and your team Charlie...... Tom
@BlueBearFlutes4 жыл бұрын
Thanks my friend! It's not the "pipers grip", so to speak. Fear not, that is mearly a distraction! 😉

Oops hit the wrong thing! Try again. I have been successful in making a tube that plays a beautiful note but when I put the fingerings in the whole thing goes south. Holes won't play or it sounds all airy. You say this isn't rocket science, but I'm not doing something right. It also seems that my finger holes feel too far apart to play comfortably. Boy I wish I could could make a flute side by side with you. You're so encouraging and make it look so easy.
@BlueBearFlutes4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your faith in me and your kind words! It certainly isn't rocket science, however it's always good to start off with a good pattern. We do have videos on making a flute in the key of F# and since they're inside diameter is close to that of your schedule 40, try following that as a pattern. Otherwise, feel free to message me through my website and I may be able to give a little light on the subject.
@susanbailey364 жыл бұрын
@@BlueBearFlutes thanks for your prompted answer. I will give the F# a try. Let you know how it goes.

The most excellent advice that I've ever received is that Susan Bailey will play (Express), her spirit. I will play my own. Regardless of where you are, your spirit will manifest and that is the beauty of this wonderful instrument. Wherever and whenever you are, you are perfect at any given moment…
