I’m so glad to see the folded-fabric ornaments come back! They were very popular in the early 90s; I must’ve made dozens for craft shows. ETA: luckily for us, this time around we have the internet and good teachers like you!

I work setting my egg in a shot glass, It makes it easier to turn and I don't have to lay the egg down when working :D I draw circles around my egg or balls so I know where each layer should go, and my lines make an X. I also iron all of my squares for sharper edges. I get my eggs on clearance after Easter too :D

I had so much fun making this ornament. It's a gift for my sister and brother in-laws since they moved to Arizona from Oregon. I think they will love the concept of pine branches, snow falling, and snow covered holly branches. 🥰

I made one of these years ago, without sequins or beads, and this is exactly the tute I need right now. I bought a blush tree with an end of season sale last year and I want to make a shabby chic-themed tree with calico pinks, ivory and burgundy fabrics. Thanks for the great refresher and tips to make mine more fancy.

Made my first pine cone ... man the styrofoam was so hard, each pin was a chore. Nothing like the round quilted one I made right after. They both turned out wonderful, if a bit large at 4 inches. Will have to snag me some 3 inch eggs and balls. Thank you for the wonderful tutorials ❤️❤️

Hi, I love watching your videos, so well presented and includes all the information, that is needed. I used to make these for craft fairs, before I got arthritis and what I would do with the top, if I ran out of fabric, pins and boy some of the tops were really wonky :) I would cut a small circle of the same fabric and fabri tac it to the top. Of course, that means that I had to use wider to ribbon to make the bows, to cover it up more, just something I found useful on a few occasions. I wish I had known about you years ago, I am really loving watching someone doing what I cant any more. Thanks Jane

I’m so happy that your channel showed up in my search for fabric Christmas decorations! I just got through searching through boxes in my studio closet, and I found 9 of your ornament subscription boxes from 2016 & 2017 that I never got around to making. I’m not sure if your channel has the exact tutorials for those ornaments, but I know you show enough instructions for others to get me through making my ornaments. Nine gifts without needing to buy anything else = A BIG WIN! ✌🏼💜🛼

I have been making these for approx 40 years. The original "pattern" that I saw was called "prairie folded ornament" but, over the years, I developed my own style and called them "Victorian Christmas ornaments". I started out with green/red/gold Christmas ribbons and decorated the tops with holly leaves and berries and a narrow ribbon bow. They became more ornate and more Victorian and sometimes a little shabby with long narrow ribbons draping over the sides. I loved doing these...they were easy to create as I listened to a TV show and they sold well at craft shows. I also custom-made them for friends in a solid color to match their decor.

These are so lovely but I lack the talent and patience to make them myself. However I happened upon a large bag filled with these ornaments while thrifting and they are among my favorite Christmas treasures. They’re on all different colors so I alternate them according to the seasons and display them in a decorated basket so I can enjoy them year round.

Simply amazing. Tip......when you get to the end of your row, take that pin out of the first one you laid down in the row and lift it up and pin it on the right side of the fold so the pattern stays the same. Open side pinned to folded side. Just an idea.

I love this ornament. I have decided to use my husband's shirt and the dresses I wore at our wedding 50 years ago. I will give these ornaments to our kids and grandkids for Christmas. My husband is excited to do this also. My only worry is the shirt is very lightweight cotton and the dress is a heavyweight material. They are not at all alike. The Colors will be beautiful. They are blue solid, and the shirt is cream and blue. I just don't know about the differences in fabric weight. What do you think?

What a lovely idea. I think it will be ok to use different weight fabric. You could use light interface on the shirt fabric

@TheOrnamentGirl Жыл бұрын
We haven't tested our patterns to adjust the fabric sizes, but it can be done! The first thing I would recommend is adjusting your fabric up 1/2 to 1" per 1" larger foam you have. After that, you may need to experiment a little bit to get the look you want. I hope that helps get you started!

If I use a 4" ball should I cut the rectangles larger. Maybe 2 1/2 x 3 1/3 instead of 3" x 2" like I use for the 3" ball
@TheOrnamentGirl Жыл бұрын
If you are working with a ball that is a little larger, then cutting your fabric a bit bigger can help. 2.5 x 3.5 is a good starting place. You may find that you need to adjust the spacing of your layers or add more fabric as well.
@melodie1552 жыл бұрын
You make it look so easy and professional. Does the straight pin really hold that pine cone up? What size straight pins do you use?
@TheOrnamentGirl2 жыл бұрын
It will! Sometimes if the ornament is very heavy, you can add a dab of glue to help hold the hanger in place, but usually you won't need to.

It depends, if your egg is a lot smaller, than cutting your fabric smaller can help. If you are working with a 3" egg, I would still keep the squares no smaller than 1.5"

Can you make a video of the version that uses ribbon? Thanks
@TheOrnamentGirl Жыл бұрын
We don't have a video demonstrating this ornament with ribbon, but working with ribbon is usually very similar to working with fabric. You will usually have a finished edge on your ribbon, so you can choose not to fold it over, but either way, it will still come out beautiful! Happy Ornament-ing!

You can cut the fabric pieces a bit smaller to reduce bulk. You may need to experiment a little bit to get the look you like, but 1.5" x 2.5" is a good starting point. Happy Ornament-ing!
