I made a mixtape in honor of a favorite character from an 80s themed tv show. It seemed fitting. I recorded from my iTunes playlist through a tape recorder I didn’t know could do such a thing

Great topic. I used to make a lot of mix tapes in my younger days. Now I make playlists for my iPod. The thing I love most about that is the time constraints are gone. You can make your list as long as you want. My holiday list has 510 songs. I do some lists with my favorite bands (Led Zeppelin, The Turtles, The Stones, Simon & Garfunkel (combining duo and solo stuff), and, yes, The Beach Boys). I also do themed sets, like 70's AM Gold, The Birth of Rock, Classic Soul. I also did every Beatles album the way I wanted it, some stereo, some mono, some rare versions, all mixed together.

This was really inspiring! Makes me want to make one and go all out with the artwork like you did. Also I love the selection as that’s one of my favorite Beach Boys eras that I like to introduce people to.

I made a Joe Walsh greatest hits album on CD-R titled: “The Older I Get, The Younger You Feel”. In honor of “The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get”. A fun project! I only wish I could make nice, realistic inserts. My dad first taught me how to record with an 8-track tape recorder at about 10 years old , then I graduated to cassettes. Now I have a Tascam CD recorder that is fun to use and feels professional.

Hey Giggens! Great video on mixtapes. I made my own cd mix tape for a friend I have here on KZbin, based around my personality featuring Supertramp, The Beach Boys, The Beatles, and many more. And it’s only 13 tracks!

Now I am going to have to listen to this mix and see how it works for me. I am loving Holland and the In Concert double that you pointed me to so much. Looking at your list there are some "I can't believe he left that off" songs and some "whats that doing on it?" It will be interesting to see how I feel after a couple of weeks living with your choices in the car. Another thought provoking video thanks.

Hey Giggens, coincidentally, I am right now taking a break from my podcast (which is essentially a mix tape anyway) and am pulling 45's to make a mix CD series that I mostly don't have anywhere else. Until I started podcasting, I spent most of my time making mixed CD's, and After five plus years I miss it. Cool video. Take care...

Great topic, One of the best videos you ever made. I made a GNR Use Your Illusion mixtape, cutting out the fat, (110 minute cassette tape) - mixtapes are about sacrifice, not everything is added. But after I made it, I missed "Bad Obsession" which didn't fit my 110 minute cassette, i kinda felt guilty afterwards. But I spent so much time making it that I really didn't want to re-record it.

Excellent cd from that period. I've made ones from a similar period. I often find that lots of albums are too long in the cd era. It seemed that when cds first came out lots of bands felt that because they could get 80 minutes onto cd then that is what they would do. To the detriment of the album as there was often filler and the album would "sag" in the middle. I think bands/artists are learning now they don't have to do that. What I enjoy doing, whether for myself or a friend, is make a cd as though I had taken it from a record. So, 45 - 50 minutes max! Bang! This is the album, no flab, no filler. Leave the audience wanting more! Okay,I could fill it up, but it is not as though blank cds are expensive. Sometimes, if I am doing a compilation of one artist I might do a double! But, onece again it is still only@ 45 minutes a side! Maybe I'm a bit weird but it is enjoyable and lets face that's what making these compiles is all about! - Oh! and playing them afterwards.

This is the track listing for a mixtape I made on the Jack Rieley period. It’s in three parts: Nostalgia, rockers, and ballads, which I consider to be the three mains ideas of that time period. ‘Til I Die: The Best of the Jack Rieley Period - ‘Til I Die (Desper Mix) - The Trader - Disney Girls (1957) - California Saga (Big Sur) - California Saga (The Beaks of Eagles) - California Saga (California) - Here She Comes - Long Promised Road - Marcella - Sail On, Sailor - You Need A Mess Of Help To Stand Alone - Feel Flows - A Day In The Life Of A Tree - All This Is That - Cuddle Up - (Wouldn’t It Be Nice To) Live Again -‘Til I Die (original album mix)
