What you are saying about the Relay doesn't seem right. NC or Normally Closed is a closed circuit, that means current can flow. Normally open is an Open Circuit, meaning current can't flow. So its essentially the other way around.

When you activate the relay, it is closed. When you activate the relay when it is NO, the relay is open.
@AVRMV_Agency
@AVRMV_Agency 6 жыл бұрын
A relay doesn't open or close itself. It opens the NC (normally closed) and closes the NO (normally open) Thats it. When the relay isnt activated, the NC will pass through current and the NO will not. When active, the NC will not pass current and the NO will. It literally switches the current from the right pin to the left pin. The center pin is what it connects to, also known as COM. COM is (when relay is not active) connected to NC. So current can flow from COM to NC. When active, it will disconnect from NC and connect to NO. So current can flow from COM to NO.

so No = Water sprays when the button is pressed Nc = Water sprays constantly unless you press the button, then it will stop untill you release the button (just an even more dumbed down version. some of this stuff can be a little confusing at times)
@tams805
@tams805 6 жыл бұрын
No - The circuit is normally open. No current flows. Pressing the button closes (completes) the circuit, allowing water to flow. Nc - The circuit is normally closed. A current flows. Pressing the button opens (breaks) the circuit, stopping the water flow.
@edwardfanboy
@edwardfanboy 6 жыл бұрын
You can get valves that are either 'normally closed' (power applied = water flows) or 'normally open' (power applied = water-flow blocked), as an added layer of confusion. To make the valve allow flow when the switch is activated, a valve that is normally closed would have to be used with a normally open switch, and vice versa.

Using 9v batteries, that receiver will probably drain them in a few days. Also you almost certainly want to use the NO contact - with the NC, you will probably be running either the relay or the solenoid all the time, again running the batteries down when it's doing nothing. And winding wire round spade tags is going to be really unreliable. At least wind a few turns round. Really not up to your usual build standards.

KZbin's entire demographic has shifted over the years, following the biggest group. That used to be tech savvy people because computers where for nerds. Currently every kid and their dog has a phone or tablet with a youtube app on it, so their main demographic are kids, moms, and people who don't have anything better to do than watch youtube all day. ... youtube is the new television, which also went from quality content to dumbed down shit as tv sets became commonplace.

@ThisMicrophoneSoundsCheap
@ThisMicrophoneSoundsCheap 6 жыл бұрын
It doesn't do you any good if you connect both wires of the solenoid to the relay, in case you meant that. It'd just be shorting them together or not. If you'd connect one lead to +12V , the other to COM and NO to the ground, then it's called low side switching and it's how you'd do it with a transistor, but generally not with a relay. PS. It's not like a "common ground/reference" on a multimeter. It's just a common for the no and nc contacts of the relay and nothing else.

I'm confused to what demographic you have been trying to hit recently, and you must be as well. With the kinds of videos you have been making for the last while you are obviously trying to appeal more to kids, and i guess you have had a growing younger audience since you started out. But no kids are going to make this, yet alone have a use for it, so what exactly is the point now. It's like making a kids show about how to do your taxes, I'm pretty confused.
@zusurs
@zusurs 6 жыл бұрын
"no kids are going to make this" Why not? I made things like these back in old days, when I was in 2nd/3rd grade - that was my first experience with electronics, relays and radio/infrared remotes, LEDs, soldering irons, etc. (of course, back then our family was poor as f*ck, so all the components was salvaged from recovered broken toys/devices) After some experimenting and little trial-and-error learning, I made a lot of cool stuff - I remember making a remote control for my desk lamp, and light-beam-interrupt beeper, so together with friends we could replicate the spy movies that we loved. Not all kids are retarded (at least I hope so - seeing today's kids actually kind of worries me...)

This would be great for a Red-Light/Green-Light game using a sprinkler, and put a slip-n-slide at the end, or make the race end at the pool! (For those unfamiliar, I'm Jamaican so this might be a game not everyone knows, it's a race type game where all the kids line up, and one person separate shouts "Green light!" And they all run, "Red Light!" And they have to stop. The fun is trying to trick people by saying stuff like "Green LIME!" or "Red Flight" etc... if someone runs before you say green light, or if you say a different word they go back to the start, same with red light.. if they don't stop fast enough or mishear you they go back. You can use any code words you like, or even use actual lights, or hand gestures, but in JA where I'm from and in FL we used RL/GL. So my idea was to use the sprinkler with this game, run while the water is on, stop when it's off.. first to the slide or pool wins, and maybe you could add some obstacles and fun stuff along the way, slip slides, kid pools etc.. ) Some variations you can try: - Hand gestures. We have done games where right hand up/open was go, left hand up/open was stop. That was hard because kids mess up the arms, or run even though you made a fist.. the more impatient they are the more fun! - Trivia Run! Ask fun questions, like "What is Hulks real name?" Or "Who was Spidermans uncle?". This one only works with a few kids, so you can hear the responses. If they get it wrong, they start over. - Jam Session! Play music, and only run while the music is playing, but with a twist. If (once stopped) they can guess the song and/or artist they can take a few steps forward, or jump ahead a place. But if they get it wrong, they go to the back of the pack. This one is my favorite to play with my sisters kids, because they love classic rock now and it's cute hearing a 6 year old shout "Forever Yours! JOURNEY! Right!? Did I get it!?" So it's a fun way to share music you love, and know they probably can't guess it until they've played a few times and learned the songs.

This video is meant to be doable even for kids! Many comments miss this fact. It's not dumbed down, it's just accessible for children. Which is good for getting more kids interested in electronics - you can share this with friends and family.
