Ha! I’m a diabetic and my insurance makes me order my insulin from their delivery system. It comes in styrofoam containers every couple of months and I’ve been storing the containers in my garage for a few years. They are stacking up! I don’t know why I’ve kept them all these years, but I have dozens. Now to the fun part! I’m redoing my back yard and part of the design has a “zen” garden area. I wanted some large rocks brought in, but I’m a bit of a tight wad and hate spending too much money. Thanks to you, I now know what to do with all those styrofoam containers! Thanks!! I’m feeling inspired!

I have 7 bags of concrete from a fence project I cannot take back. Have had them for a couple of years. I’ve been YouTubing for ideas on what to do with them. Now I have my ideas. I’ve made little colored red rocks for my flower beds. I wrapped concrete into bags and made about thirty rocks from an 80lb bag of mix. The creativity is endless. Thank you for the lesson.

Well thanks for the positive feedback. I appreciate you watch my video. The white stuff is an acrylic. Add mixture and or bonding agent in the case of what we sprayed on the cardboard to seal. It was a bonding agent really we used it to seal the cardboard, so it wouldn’t lose rigidity from the moisture of the cement when we applied the fiber, reinforcement. We definitely used the acrylic admixture to strengthen the fiber reinforced Cement Mixture as well

When comparing a small fake rock to a real rock, one might be able to conclude it isn’t worth pursuing the fake. If you you wanted to cover and access a valve in the ground that the fake rock could cover then the fake would be ideal. If you had to move either rock to a hard to access area then fake would be ideal. Keep in mind that this was simply a demonstration of technique most of the features that I build real rock cannot compare to the ease and cost and logistics of using fake rock

I can think of a few ways of modifying the building process to create a critter barrier. The solid foam one should be too much effort for a rat to excavate a home into. you could exclude rats from the interior of hollow ones by putting a barrier material across the bottom. A bit of research would probably provide detail about requirements (think of diy info for places like small farms or homesteaders. Keeping rats out of domestic fowl areas is important. Also maybe building codes for cities)). A metal mesh like cattle fencing but with smaller openings. Or solid metal, flashing (Alum/galvanized) is pretty light weight. You could also find out how deep a barrier needs to be to exclude rats, and include that into your build, adding a depth of material around the base of your rock. Depending on the depth and the size of your rock, you can figure out which method is easiest. I would just use a solid foam rock and if you see signs of foam excavation, it's easy to lift up and put some fine sturdy metal mesh. It may eventually rust, but I have had a plain galvanized metal barrier along part of the bottom of my fence to keep dogs from squeezing out for 8 years and it looks fine. For reference, I live in the northeast US. Summers are Hot (up to 100 a few days every year, average summer highs 89), very humid (70-80% regularly). Wet falls; cold wet winters (hard freeze, November-March); wet, stormy springs. Sorry for rambling response, I like trying to think of solutions.
