Looks like the best tip I've found on You tube so far. That will be the first thing I'll do when my neck knife arrives.. Thanks.

You can buy like a 100 pack of the chains, and 200 of the connectors on Amazon for about $10. I carry my badge on a ball chain everyday. Trust me, the ball and chain WILL break away long before it chokes you to death, or does any serious damage to your airway. They use the ball chains for dog tags in the military for the same reason.

Very useful information, had no idea that you could feed a chain through the paracord

I did just this and liked it a lot. I only used it for one neck knife and put shrink wrap over the metal chain showing.

Roo, Means a lot brother, thanks so much for your service! As for right to the point, I try. Some just like to hear themselves talk, I just try to give my experience and nothing more. As for this idea, wish it was mine! Thought I'd make the video because some may not know how easy it is? Hate the feel of the metal chain, the paracord sheath helps a lot. Thanks again my friend!

Instant thumbs up! So simple but yet so practical. Genius idea! I feel foolish for not thinking this up myself. I spent 3 years in the Army 101st Airborne & all we had was the plastic/soft rubber coverings that REALLY pulled your chest hairs lol. Thanks so much, I make EVERYthing with 550..just glad you came up with this.Do i see a patent in the works? ha! Hope so! Great vid, your a natural with your reviews, down to earth & right to the point of what people wanna hear! Thanks again. ~Roo~

Great video man ..... when i got done with mine , i made it where the chain is hidden completely but will break if somein happen , i had a spear piece of cordage and used it where the ball chain connects and it looks like a solid cord loop and its in 2 pieces where itll break off in the back.

I'm probably missing something obvious, but how is the ball chain much better than the paracord? I've never seen a ball chain break with a sharp tug, and with the paracord sheath, it's still totally possible for it to become a garrotte. Why not a breakaway barrel connector?

I've actually been doing something similar for about a year now. In my case, I just feed a couple of inches worth of the chain into gutted paracord, then melt the ends to secure the ball chain in there. Clip the chain for the snap and you're good to go! Neither of the two have failed me yet, though I could see how this method would be much more secure. The thing I love most about my method is that it seemingly offers the absolute best of both worlds. (post limit, chapter 2 coming up!)

yes. the chains I get, which are supposedly Mil Spec for that are 20lbs breaking force.. I'm just curious if the way the latch is put around the knife if it will actually snap, or get bound up in some unusual way where the force cannot be applied to the break point and lets the paracord take the strain.
@BigfootTJ

Yep, I was wondering the same thing when he put the clasp in front of the sheath. I was wondering if the paracord would bind up and not allow the clasp to break. I have a feeling it would break, but just to be safe, I'd put the clasp on the back of my neck. Better safe than sorry.

You can do it this way or you can use a cord lock without knots and pinch melted ends and be done in about 60 seconds and be even safer. It takes even less of a pull to "break" than the chain while still maintaining enough strength to extract the knife quickly and sharply without coming undone.
@danofiremano
@danofiremano 7 жыл бұрын
Not any safer (they're both safe ways). I tested my set up many times before I implemented it and it and I can adjust the length of my sheath according to what I'm doing where with the cheap plastic clips that CRKT provides with this product do not give that option. I also used Fire Cord as my necklace to go with the small ferro-rod that I added to the sheath as an emergency fire kit.

You can also act like an adult who actually knows something, and not worry about such silly things. Only on KZbin are people so childish and paranoid that they worry about a SAFE way to carry a neck knife, even though out in the real world NO ONE gets choked by them, however they carry them.

Glad it worked out brother! I have no experience with katanas. The only thing that may help, is people always seem to be happy with cold steels offerings. No personal experience though, just hear say from hanging around the knife world for a few years :) Thanks again!

It does make me uncomfortable when I see someone make a neck knife out of paracord. I sit there and think "You do know that cord is rated at 550lbs, right?" Thanks for the video man!
@buriedintheblack
@buriedintheblack 11 жыл бұрын
(part 2) The gutted paracord adds a ton of stability to the dangling knife while not suffering from either the bulkiness or ball-clatter present with a pure bead chain. The ball chain offers far more comfort for the neckline (for non gorillas, apparently. Sorry Joe!) and the safety features discussed hear already. I'm definitely going to do up a chain like this one, just to see the difference... but something tells me I've already found my ideal solution.

p.s. I know you made this for neck knives but just tried it with my old dog tags & an Izula & WOW! Big difference.My Izula has a Wicked edge on & they make NO noise,rattle whatsoever when both are attached(tags & Izula together) Cant say enough, Amazing thinking there Solo coming up with this simple"mod" to any style of tactical necklace! Lifelong subscriber & keep the reviews coming. In the market for a nice Katana, no,not a $20,000 Japanese hand made but a good one nonetheless. Any thoughts?

The reason I don't use the beaded chain is because it gets caught in my massively hairy back and neck hair and I also like the element of suprise when I am sneaking up on my victims and I do not want to alert them to my presence by hearing the sound of the beads. Haha
@TheStig000
@TheStig000 11 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't take much force. Its the same kind of thing they use for dog tags. They are built to break if they get caught on something. It shouldn't injure you significantly.

I have bought that beaded chain beforeand it's chrome plated and it gets rusty. I found a better easier way to do the same idea. My craft store have breakaway paracord connectors for about 50 cents each. They are so cheap that you can have one for every purpose.

Show me one instance of anyone ever being chocked by a neck knife. Just one. People have been carrying these things for thousands of years, so you would think we'd have examples everywhere, but so far, no one has shown me a single example. Safety is a good thing, but excessive safety if just lack of knowledge, insecurity, and paranoia. I know a lot of true experts who carry neck knives, and I even know quite a few Special Forces men who carried neck knives in the service, and who now carry them in civilian life, and none of them worry about a "safe" lanyard. And, no, it is not a necklace. That's more ignorance.
