The neck knife lanyards I've given out in recent months have generated questions and I thought I would address those questions here.

I wear a small light neck knife inside my shirt most of the time. It’s usually my Tops mini Scandi blade. But on occasion I might wear my Brisa Scandi Necker. After about 5 minutes I don’t notice they’re even there. I have a little CRKT Minimalist...but don’t trust the retention enough so it’s pocketed. Anyway, I’ve worn a neck knife off and on for over 50 years. Never have had ‘em attack me, fall into my pancakes or fly around my head or whatever. I suppose if you wear a larger, heavier knife around your neck that might be an issue if you had to wear it outside, exposed...and spent your day jumping off logs, etc. But that doesn’t describe me.

I have been trying to figure out how to do all of this. It's simple and easy. I'm on my way to the garage to do it right now!!! Thanks so much.

Nice System. I like the carabiner solution. I am not a big fan of things hanging around my neck too but if you gonna use a neck knife you got give a little of comfort for the advantage of carrying a fixed blade. I think that's why folders are so popular because they are comfortable to carry and also discreet.

Excellent ideas ! I don't wear my BK11 for the same reasons you mentioned. It seemed like a good idea at the time. Now it rides at the bottom of my RTAKII sheath, secured with zip-ties and para-chord. But now I just might rethink my carry options. I would sometimes run the cord underneath the collar of a shirt on those rare occaisions when I wore a shirt with a collar. I also like your secondary retainer cord attached to your waist. That's thinking outside the container!

Great video and it answered several of my questions re neck knives... I might suggest that you add a 'second' line to a carabiner attached to your waist on the other side to prevent the knife from swinging from one side or the other when bending over, etc. I would use some sort of elastic cord to give a little extra movement, but still permit comfort... I, have no problem with a neck knife, but I use a rather small one that is even smaller than a Mora as it too seems a little large for me...although, I do like Mora knives as a secondary knife... Again, thanks for your videos and ideas on gear...never enough of these to help 'newbies' like myself!!! Safety to you and yours always!

What a great idea...I stopped wearing my neck knife because it annoyed me. I kept it in one of my EDC pouches. I will give your idea a try... Thanks Ken T
@feralwoodcraft8 жыл бұрын
+Ken T Thanks Ken, it does seem to work well and it does give one copious amounts of spare cordage if one needs it.

This is a great idea. I may have to make this myself now. I would add a second lanyard at the bottom though to make more of an X harness for my EDC neck knives so they don't move at all under my shirts.

I really dig mine, cannot wait to get my extensive review in, makes it easy to access as well as conceal for those who may be intimidated by knife carry. It also does not shift everywhere, thanks again bro.

I just use a cotton strap with Karabiners on the end. I also carry the knife inside my shirt.
@feralwoodcraft9 жыл бұрын
+James Ritchie That sounds also like a good solution. And a bit more out of the box then paracord lol. Nice! Thanks James!

I had the same issues, the knifes all were just to big and did not like the line on my neck. I see a schrade knife very small with paracord on the handle. Tryed and really like it. Tks for ur vid.
@feralwoodcraft8 жыл бұрын
+Rick AB. Schrade is certainly making some nice inexpensive blades these days and I am certain they have something to offer that would fit the role of neck knife very well. Thanks Rick!

good idea i wear mine with my shirt over it, it moves around but its ok handy when you need to open or cut things instead of goin to back pocket and opening knife then closing i prefer the neck knife
@feralwoodcraft8 жыл бұрын
+James Webster Agreed. Neck knives sure are handy. Definitely more user friendly then a pocket knife, especially when you only have one hand free. Thanks for watching James.

That's a great idea. I've tried neck knives on several occasions and I have the same issue you do. There will be a Stkr Scout in my future. I'll have to give this a try.
@Asertix3578 жыл бұрын
I don't know if I'd go that far with the cobra stitch on the neck strap. I'm thinking more like a small section of cobra stitching right where it rests on the neck so it's more focused.
@feralwoodcraft8 жыл бұрын
+Asertix357 I've tried them both. I honestly don't mind the weight but I definitely see your point. I have made them for people as you describe though and they've seemed fairly popular. Thanks fo rwatching!

As weird as this looked at first, its not a world away from a 3-point sling concept. +1 and subbed. Im going to try it out. Your right btw, neck knives are no issue if they are a few grammes, but once you get into the range of a useful knife its going to weigh enough to piss you off if it swings in your grill. Great video and thx
@Pavia15258 жыл бұрын
How do you prevent being strangled if the paracord necklace gets hung up? Is there a quick breakaway point built in? I didn't see it mentioned. Thx.
@feralwoodcraft8 жыл бұрын
+Pavia 1525 Yes, the spot where the para cord is melted together has a breaking point at about 20 to 30lbs. Good eye!

Or sling the neck knife accross the chest. Neck knifes are great for always having a knife on you no matter the application. Most of the time I keep my Schf16 under my shirt in the woods and on the outside when around the house. I also swapped out the necklace cordage for stainless ball chain ( dog tag chain brain fart can't remember term) that way it doesn't hold moisture.

Spiderco makes amazing neck knife. It’s not a replacement for your EDC though and carried best under your shirt. It’s extremely sharp and a great slicer for sure that’s ultra lightweight. For about $75.00 us American dollars. I’ve used them for years out on the ranches in the great state of Texas. But I’m not a real cowboy just broke down Ol super puncher Ol Son!

Is it just me? ...I just don't get the neck carry thing. I know its an old post, but just stumbled upon it. All my years as a grunt, and I never met any fellow grunts, who carried a knife this way. Belt, pocket-clip, outer boot for us jumpers, and the most common...gun-taped, upside down, to the opposite side of your dominant hand. I'm still trying to get this...any help for my feeble old brain would be appreciated. I could see it if it was tucked under a jacket or sweater...but really, I'm just not seeing how this would be preferred. Having said all that, it could very well be the "new" thing in the military...things change. Stay safe!
@feralwoodcraft8 жыл бұрын
Nope, not at all Danny. It's very useful under certain circumstances, a prime example being carrying minimal gear or loose fitting clothing to stay cool (think desert environment) and also as a secondary type blade that is task specific to say camp craft or something where one already has a large heavy knife on their belt. That being said, I rarely carry that way anymore. I totally get what you're saying and in the end it really boils down to personal preference. And Danny, from my family to you,thank you very much for your service. We are grateful.
@dannybumpkins5568 жыл бұрын
+Feral Woodcraft Ok..got it, each to his own I suppose :-) Me being a klutz, would not tempt fate...or the wrath of a cranky old Sgt. Major..."get that f***ing thing off yer neck!" lol.

Feral Woodcraft ...and thank you for your sincere thanks. Still seems odd...after having rocks and bottles being thrown at us in the early 70's, spit on in public, constant bar fights, and being called "baby-killers" all the time. Standing on the wall, to defend democracy..and the right to spit on me, was worth every minute.

You killed two (or three) birds with one stone; Comfort, extra cordage, and possibly safety using the carabiner. Well done once again. I watched a show on National Geographic that showed why neck knives were carried in the first place. In Scandanavian countries men wanted a knife they could reach easily if they fell through ice on a frozen lake or pond. They could get themselves out of the water with their knife, chopping into ice and pulling themselves up and out. Makes sense, but I will walk around it. LOL Thanks for another great idea. I think this will catch on.
@feralwoodcraft8 жыл бұрын
+csh 62 I agree lol definitely walk around the ice. Especially around here. The ice never gets thick enough to be safe. Glad you you found this helpful bud and thanks for the feedback!

what is the down-side to belt carry?
@feralwoodcraft9 жыл бұрын
This video wasn't to say belt carry is bad or that neck carry is superior at all but to address the discomfort of neck carry via a single cord across the back of my neck. That said, the main downside I've personally had with belt carry is that when I'm carrying a full size backpack it is extremely uncomfortable having a belt knife on. all in all, how you carry a knife all boils down to personal preference.
@eipi51739 жыл бұрын
Feral Woodcraft i clip mine on the back pack suspenders (usually i wear a pistol belt which works fine too) neck carry is a pain like you said . plus i also worry about it falling out of its sheath during a fall or a roll down a hill. Something ive had to deal with since getting older lol
@feralwoodcraft9 жыл бұрын
Ei Pi Yeah I hear you. I don't think there is a mode of carry that doesn't have a downside really. It's just finding the balance I guess. All your worries are legitimate ones. Thanks again!
@jamesritchie68999 жыл бұрын
+Ei Pi I'm old, too. If I fall down a hill, losing a knife is going to be the least of my worries. My bones would sound like a box of Rice Krispies.
