Thank you so much for this tutorial, I have a knee length crinoline made of tulle and needed some extra support for a floor length skirt so this was very helpful. And if I can make a suggestion for people who don't have a lot of space to work (I only have an ironing board and small card table as I live in a tiny apartment)? Try sewing the back seam after you've finished the flounce but before you add the elastic, fitted waistband/drawstring. That way, you can just fold the finished pieces off to the side and save space and I find it a lot easier to work with smaller circles on my sewing machine.

Hello ! I know I’m late, but thank you so much for this tutorial ! English is not my first language, and although my level is acceptable, I do not always understand everything when it comes to very specific vocabulary ; yet everything in your video is so clear ! It makes me feel like I can do it. One day, my costume projects will come to life ! Also, I have a question : here, you made you petticoat so it can be placed over a crinoline. However, is it possible to use this kind of petticoat without one ? I have ideas for a dress that would require a certain amount of volume, but not to the point of needing a crinoline, and I definitely do not have the money for lots and lots of fabrics. Following this, is it possible to use multiple petticoats under a dress, or would it risk making the result look weird ? Again, thank you so much for this video. I’ll definitely be checking your other tutorials ! Lots of love, and happy sewing !
@KirileeCosplay11 ай бұрын
Hi! You can certainly make petticoats and not wear a crinoline underneath to add volume. However, generally you need multiple layers which can become hot. That’s why the crinoline was first invented. However you could always look at doing a simplified hoop skirt- a very small crinoline with only one or two hoops. That way it isn’t too much work

What would you recommend for someone who doesn't really want a crinoline petticoat to wear under a dress. I have one dress that is Victorian(ish) in design and has a hem circumference of around 3m, including 1.5m pleated at the front into a 25cm area in the front (princess seam design with the front panel a different colour to the rest of the dress, 1.5m pleated into the waistband at the front). I have a couple of other dresses and skirts that are nowhere near as full as this, one sort of vaguely a full walking skirt with pleats at the back and a couple that have circular skirts to them. A crinoline would be a mite over the top but I need some support under the Victorian dress at least, and ideally under at least two of the skirts as well, because they really don't show to their best without something. Any advice gratefully received. Really enjoy your tutorials by the way, glad I found you earlier this year.

A crinoline will end up being the lightest weight option- otherwise you will have lots of petticoats and layers

I want to make a petticoat for modest clothing. I don't want my legs to show. So even when wearing a long skirt when walking the skirt wrapped around my legs like I am wearing tight pants. I tried wearing a puffy skirt as underskirt, but it just bulked between my knees like I had a giant tumor which would only cause more stares. Also, I think, one step further I would have tripped over my 'tumor'. I avoid synthetic clothing because I see Muslim women wearing Middle Eastern clothing thinking they are fully covered but one blow of the wind and their whole figure shows! Since I am watching videos on period clothing which I have always loved. I see that a whole lot of those items are functional. Could you advise me please what the best kind of underskirt/ petticoat to keep any kind of skirt in shape and prevent riding or bulking? Thanks in advance.
@KirileeCosplay2 ай бұрын
Weight on the bottom hem will help with ensuring it doesn’t ride up etc but be aware, the more weight you add, the heavier it will become.
@Minnigirl14 жыл бұрын
how would the petticoat look without the crinoline tho? would it still add poof or is the crinoline needed for that?

It will still add a little poof, especially where the ruffles are, but to get the larger shapes, I would recommend a crinoline
