It's speculated the reason the stories feel so unrelated is because they were probably just scrapped episodes of the tv show that were slapped together for a direct to video "movie" which was fairly common for Disney direct to video movies of this era.
@PINKEDASHPT2 жыл бұрын
Oh it was common alright. Beauty and the beast, Atlantis 2, Tarzan and Jane... I don't doubt for a second it's likely what happened.

Honestly I feel like they would have been a lot better had they been produced as episodes. They all have this weird "there were last minute rewrites to make it not totally disjointed" vibe that results in them feeling way less interesting than they otherwise would have been. "Yzma returns and Kronk has to accept that, while he feels bad for her, her path is ultimately a self destructive one and she will drag him down with her if he lets her" is a very interesting concept for a plot, but the movie decided like it has to tie it to Kronk wanting a thumbs up from his father and in turn that part of the movie ended up far less focused than it otherwise could have been.
@motxmod2 жыл бұрын
Problem with that theory is that they did make a series, Emperor's New School
@KyogresHideout_Vegito21212 жыл бұрын
@@motxmod That actually strengthens the theory though because the theory was these were scrapped episodes that didn't make the cut for the series not that the series itself was scrapped. Almost every show/movie ever made had ideas that ended up being scrapped in the final product and sometimes they might even end up being recycled.

I like this movie. It's definitely not better than the original but it's enjoyable a movie on its own and it's definitely one of the better Disney sequels. It reminds me of a less interesting Lion King 1 1/2, and that movie is hands down my favourite Lion King movie.

If I had to make a Kronk-focused movie, I'd give him an aspiration. Something we don't know about Kronk from the first plot is, what does Kronk want? What are Kronk's goals? We know he works for Yzma, so he is the support for her goals as a lackey or henchman, but we don't know WHY. What circumstances put him under her employ in the first place? Was it simply as coincidental as Yzma, in a position of political power, needing some hired muscle and Kronk being available for the job and naïve enough to be taken advantage of? But we know Kronk isn't kept in the dark on Yzma's objectives, he goes along with her schemes to dethrone the ruling monarch and overtake his position of his own volition. Sure, if he and Yzma got fired, then it only makes sense that Yzma's schemes securing their quality of life after the uncertainty of unemployment seem to be worth the risks. But we don't know WHY he needs the job so badly in the first place. He's talented and strong and good-natured and intelligent, just a bit different. So I'd have gone with something that establishes a clear goal for Kronk and have some establishing backstory that the audience can connect the dots to how he ended up where he did in the first movie as technically a supporting villain despite his obvious good-natured personality. And work on using some of the cast built in the first movie to support Kronk's best characteristics and make the most of what the first movie left us with.

I don't remember how the movie got into the house, but I watched the heck out of it when I was a kid. Didn't have the first one, saw the pre-movie teasers for it on the VHS tapes so maybe it was the classic shovelware mix-up. Looking back on it, it was definitely just "colorful noise" for the kids. There are vague moral lessons about honesty and accepting the consequences of your actions, but all I really remember in actual detail is how Papi as the silver-haired stocky manly-man with a sick tattoo reminded me of my Pepere, introducing me to Earth, Wind, and Fire, and worst of all, The Nostril Flare of Total Rejection™

I kinda feel like maybe the whole "cooking is... Bad?" is more or less only confusing because the Nuclear Family has evolved pretty drastically as we kinda figured out "oh wow, forcing the woman in the kitchen is actually kinda sexist! Anybody can cook or work, why didn't we think of that sooner!" It's clear the conflict was that no matter how great Kronk is, or how self sufficient he is: "he's a failure because he didn't fit the mold of the Family Man. He hasn't made it because he doesn't work for a wife and kids to keep a roof over their heads." And having him realize he doesn't need those things to make it, just that he needs to be a good person. ... Though I do agree that maybe Kronk of all people isn't the best character to fit the theme.

I think the best way to sum up the movie is that everyone wanted a kronk movie, literally EVERYONE wanted a kronk movie, it had absolutely everything going for it, all they had to do was make a kronk movie. But no instead we just got a random series of plots and kronk just happened to be there. You're just sitting there the entire time like... But I wanted a movie Actually About Kronk It seriously feels like he just fell into not only another universe but an entirely different writing style and like.. design philosophy of what even qualifies as a movie at all. Was this a bunch of rejected movie ideas blended up into a smoothie with Kronk squashed into the role of three different protagonists? That's the only way it'd make any sense to me. RIP, potential amazing Kronk movie we couldve got!

If you thought this was the worst, just watch (or dont) Hunchback of Notre Dame 2. It was pitiful and just makes me ill whenever I think of how much a train wreck that movie is really. Mulan 2 was also souless and hated. The Little Mermaid 2 was such a dissapointment and just a rehash of the amazing original. I really would love a Yizma origin story and how she and Kronk became partners. That would have been more interesting for a sequel. A prequel sequel. We could have seen her even as the emperors right handed woman and promised the throne but then the birth of Kuzko ruins that and she starts becoming the woman she is in the original. I wanted her story.

But is it as bad as Mulan 2? No joke for as soullessly stupid as this movie is, I don't see anything that would make me genuinely fucking angry for even haven watched it. But then you got this other direct to sequel flick where on top of every damn character being a bloody idiot, Mushu of all characters is the villain and it is for an incredibly stupid reason. And as the credits started rolling I just wanted to grab the nearest blunt instrument and kill someone I was that genuinely angry.

I’m glad you made this. A soulless sequel is exactly what it is. It just didn’t feel right. I liked Kronk like I liked Axel from KH2. But as soon as he became the focus, it was too much exposure. It’s like they doubled down on what we liked, but that’s all they did Edit: also, great video! I always forget to say that!
