Overview
Simple pattern suitable for intermediate beginners. Using the Sentro 48 stitch knitting machine in the panel setting.
Goals
Other ways to use your sentro knitting machine in place of hand knitting.
You will need:
waste yarn (wool you don't mind throwing away)
300g working yarn (the wool you will use for the project)
4 pegs
a smooth surfaced table (optional)
a soft seat (optional)
a washing basket (optional)
scissors
a darning needle
a crochet hook
a pair of US size 4-6 circular needles with a long cord and a short cord
a pair of US size 2 circular needles: one with a long cord and one with a short cord for the arms
The Pattern
Size: Small- Medium
The back panels:
Put your machine in the P (panel) setting.
Crank anti clockwise until you arrive at the white tooth.
Grab a bit of nail polish and work out where your 40th tooth is and paint a little bit of nail polish on it. For a large you can use the full 48 teeth.
Cast on with your waste yarn up to the painted tooth but not under the painted tooth.
Feed the wool through the slit and into the tension gauge, the middle one will be fine.
2 or 3 stitches wont catch- this is normal.
Crank out 15 rows of waste yarn.
Add working yarn.
Crank for 100 rows.
Re-add your waste yarn and crank for about 5 to 10 rows.
Cast off by taking the wool out of the tension gauge and out of the slit and pop the ball in the center and crank around twice.
Make a second one.
Remove the waste yarn from one end of the panel and cast off on your needles.
Darn the 2 together from the newly casted off ends first using the mattress stitch (see video tutorial at the end of the pattern if you are unfamiliar with the mattress stitch).
The front panels:
Put your machine in the P (panel) setting.
Crank anti clockwise until you arrive at the white tooth.
Grab a bit of nail polish and work out where your 40th tooth is and paint a little bit of nail polish on it. For a large you can use the full 48 teeth.
Cast on with your waste yarn up to the painted tooth but not under the painted tooth.
Feed the wool through the slit and into the tension gauge, the middle one will be fine.
2 or 3 stitches wont catch- this is normal.
Crank out 15 rows of waste yarn.
Add working yarn.
Crank for 70 rows.
Carefully remove stitches from the machine and add them onto your needles.
For these panels (2 of them) there will be a decreasing process to create the neck line.
On panel A- the decreasing will take place on the wrong (purl) side and on panel B, the decreasing will take place on the right (knit) side ONLY.
For the next 10 rows- decrease 2 stitches at the beginning of the row- until you have lost 10 stitches on your needles.
Then you will decrease (cast off) only 1 stitch arrive at 18 stitches on your needles.then knit the rest out until you arrive at 100 rows.
Cast off.
Using the mattress stitch, darn the 2 front panel pieces together from the neck line down towards the waist.
Then you will darn the shoulders together starting from the far end going towards the neck.
Fit on your vest and using a peg- work out roughly where you want the armpit hole to be. Go with your measuring tape- and measure this distance so you can place a peg on the exact same spot on the other side.
Using the mattress stitch- darn from the armpit hole down towards the waist.
Pick up all the stitches around the neck and knit in a 1 x 1 rib for around 7 cm- then turn the collar.
Do the same around the arm holes.
Remove all the waste yarn around the waist and knit in a 1 x 1 rib for your desired length.
Cast off with elasticated thread.
Tidy up loose ends.
