Thank you your tutorials are brilliant. I have been sewing since my mother taught me at about the age of 10 but then had quite a break. It's nice to find someone who knows how to show the correct way when d doing things. I live in the UK and I wish there were more luscious fabrics at reasonable prices available here. Thank you I will be following you.

It took me forever, but I just finished my cover and absolutely love it. The video instructions were perfect and very helpful. I did put some fusible interfacing on the pocket to make it sturdier. I also added ribbon trim at the top of the pocket. A cute little heart button topped it off. I will go back to your videos for other projects and I just ordered the Better Not Pout Ornament Club and can't wait to get started on that. Thank you so much!

A great idea that I have come across for using the Frixion Pen is - when you want the lines gone . you need not iron it - just use your hair dryer ( blower) on high 0 gone instantly and does a large area quite quickly

Great project Jennifer! I've made one of these before, but instead of an elastic cord I made a half-circle flap with a buttonhole for a closure. You can also use a ponytail elastic (I but bags of 100 of them for $1 at Dollar Tree) for the cord. I leave the metal clip on the ponytail elastic sticking out of the seam while I'm sewing it into place because it's easy to hold onto and then I snip it off before turning my project right-side out!

Hi Jen - I LOVE all your videos and watch them over and over and always look forward to your new weekly ones. Can I make a suggestion? when I make bags or tablet case I attach the lining slightly different to how you demonstrated. If you attach the top of the lining to the top of the front cover and machine across and do the same for the back. Then open out and put right sides together, lining on lining and front on back and machine the whole way round leaving a gap in the bottom of the lining. When you turn it out it will look as your demo did but the hole you pulled everything through is in the bottom of the lining instead of being at the top of the bag. Don't forget, when you machine the top of the lining to the top of the back to pop the little bit of elastic in as you did. Hope you don't mind me mentioning all this - I personally just find it easier that way and also your pull through hole is hidden. I love learning all different ways of getting to the same result ha ha. Looking forward to your next weekly video. Love Linda xx

Love the fabrics you used. They are gorgeous. Just a thought, have you tried doing a drop-in lining? I have found that I love using this method. No turning required and for me it is an easier way to sew the lining and outer fabric together. You can insert your elastic between the pieces. Have a great day.

Made this last night for my SurfacePro, and followed the directions exactly to scale up based on the device's measurements with keyboard attached... Turns out the keyboard adds just enough thickness to make it a wee bit snug (really struggled to get it in), but the keyboard fits in the pocket when detached! I'll likely throw together another and add 1/4" to all dimensions. Thank you for your wonderful tutorials :)

When inserting the elastic in the top of the bag, cut it just a bit longer and tie tie a knot in the ends. When the bag is turned the knot will be caught in the seam and stays put, this keeps it from pulling out and the knot is not even notice able in the seam. Love the video.

Hi, For the tablet cover what weight of wadding do you require, they seem to do 2oz, 4oz, 6oz and so on. Thanks. Loved making the Tote bag with the flower. In fact it was the first bag I have ever made. I only started sewing a few weeks ago, ive been learning off tutorials so not brilliant but Im trying. Ive made the make up bag, some kids pj shorts and a bag so far. Just not used to my new machine so not sure re the tension and stitches sizes I should used on these products. Any advice would be much appreciated. Tracy x
@ShabbyFabrics
@ShabbyFabrics 7 жыл бұрын
We use standard quilting batting- the loft is your preference- we like extra lofty for a nice "puffy" appearance but any standard batting works. The best way to get used to the settings on your machine is run scrap fabrics through in parallel lines using different settings each time and mark which settings were used on each line to create a kind of "cheat sheet" for your machine's setting. Here is an awesome post about machine tension and common fixes: ohyoucraftygal.blogspot.com/2013/10/sewing-lesson-10-how-to-fix-tension-on.html

I can’t find any of the fabrics mentioned in the tutorial on Shabby Fabrics website. Went to pre cuts as suggested but they’re not there. Where was the pink singer in the tutorial purchased? I’ll look online and hopefully find one. If not, I’ll be back to beg for the one from the tutorial! What is the model number and year it was made?

Since this tutorial was produced a while back, we have sold out of all of the fabrics in this video. Jen's sewing machine is just a Singer Featherweight - she had it powdered coat pink by a friend in England, so you can probably find someone to do that too since powder coating seems to be more common now. -Michelle

@@ShabbyFabrics I’ll have to find a machine that is less valuable than my black one and have it powder coated. I think Jenny Doan did the same thing but hers was a light aqua. Thanks for your help. Donna

Hello. What kind of batting did you use. I am new to quilting and my piece turned out soooo bad. It shrunk when I press and everything wrinkled away

I would like to use a zipper instead of an elastic and button. Would that be possible with the same measurements?

Can someone help me understand what size fabric and padding to cut out if I want to make a sleeve with a finished size of 9.25 Height x 7.5 Width and a Depth of 2 inches. I want to make a sleeve for my half binder that I use as a planner. With a depth of two inches, I don't think the flat bottom would work and I need to make mine have a box bottom but don't know how to change the measurements. Thanks!

Hello Barbra! The formulas needed to figure out how much fabric you will need are on a free download on our website under Tablet Cover. There you will see the dimensions and be able to know the amount of fabric necessary. Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah

Cute. But I’d leave the turning hole in the side of the lining. That way the top would lie flatter and be neater. But I’m grateful for the tutorial.

@shabbyfabrics great tutorial! just ordered a new Kindle tablet, so this is perfect! I found the pattern, thank you. I have a question. I usually use 1/4 inch seams but in the vide you mention to sew (i believe the linning or outer fabric) 1/8 inch seam. can you please confirm here? thank you!
@ShabbyFabrics

Hello! In the video Jen sews the pocket piece at an 1/8" seam and with the front and the back piece right sides together you will sew them at a 1/4" seam. The lining will also be sewn with a 1/4" seam. - Yajaira

Where u leave the opening for turning at if u will stop with needle down, pivot and sew off project it not only reinforces that opening, I have found that it will turn in that seam allowance and it makes sewing that opening up much easier. Thought Id share that tip cause I love it when making anything that has to be turned out

So you trim the front and back down to the size of the lining. But you did not tell us the size of the lining. It looks like it is about 1 inch smaller?

On the free download from our website, the lining is cut to the device height + 1". Once the cover is quilted you will trim the front and back to the size of the lining. Happy Holidays! ❄~Leah
