In regards to the MOSFETs that kept failing, I think one of the issues is that you aren't using an RC snubber (resistor and capacitor in series) in parallel with the source and drain of your mosfet. When I was building a half-bridge flyback driver, my mosfets kept dying every time I increased the voltage. So I watched a video by DiodeGoneWild in his SSTC playlist, and his RC snubber fixed my problem once and for all. I understand that you had to make a lot of adjustments to your circuit and resistors to make the problem go away, but some of the things you did may have reduced the performance of your Tesla coil (increasing gate resistance). With the RC snubber, your MOSFETS will be able to handle more power and thereby increase the output voltage of your Tesla coil.

Hello George I hope you are doing well and fine. I just want to ask one doubt in your respective schematic. 1) Can u tell my why R6 is 200 watt, i am not able to find one, can u suggest me any solution for this? 2) what can find 250 watt mercury ballast with 2.1 ohm resistance? Iam inspired from your project, i myself made many Tesla coils but your version of circuit is most efficient one i have ever seen. Thanku once again, please clear my doubts and its nearly going to complete my tesla coil.

Hey George! I'm trying to make a very similar circuit to run off of 330V (from 120V through a doubler), do you have any suggestions? Has this circuit died on you yet?
@eleman-gc3 жыл бұрын
This circuit is for AC and not for DC. If you want to make the same circuit use the main power 120v and find 250w ballast on 120v into your country and changed the resistances to the gate. I think you will play between 8k or 10k or 12k on the resistor "R3". Another important resistance is the "R6", but I'm not know the coil you have made. maybe you have play between 20ohm or 50ohm or 70ohm, I do not know I'm not sure. Whatever you do, be careful and follow the safety rules.

If you put your coil next to alot of metal objects. Tools, drill press,.... adding a topload will cause interactions that are no good. I figured this out when experimenting. Every time i added a topload the coil failed. Then it struck me. It was 20 cm away from my drill press. I moved it away and from then on i was set.

@sailingcapedissappointment2012 Жыл бұрын
@@JoshHopkinsYTyes no doubt mosfets work however I was under the impression that the spark gap generator's adjustability was key to the whole experiment combining electricity with resonance. Having the set values of what ever mosfets are available might be missing the whole point there would be no adjustment for resonant frequency .. We now have capacitors that incorporate a plasma arc within them so what if that could be taken in a more advanced direction along with spark gap technology taken to the next level, Tesla understood the ether and to be able to work with the ether would be why Tesla created the Tesla coil ....

Could you please explain to me what its purpose is? You said ballast should have small resistance, but another guy who built very similar one (basically the same coil but on 120V) used a light bulb as a ballast which has high resistance. the guy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2HPnJpvod2tadU
