Haven't tried this yet, but am VERY excited to try it out. When you come up with a hack for removing those pesky wash plates out in the field, you will be my personal hero! I'm going to hop on the lathe when I get some free time and make one. If it works like you say, I'll ship one to you along with a box of doggy treats! Absolutely love the random pups in the videos.

Thanks my friend! I’d appreciate it. The one I made isn’t too elegant!

Clever! You get to use all the force and still not risk damage.

A friend of mine gave me an even better way. Works every time. After removing the spanner nut, turn the spanner wrench on end so it’s standing up lengthwise and tap firmly with a mini sledge 4 times, once on each “corner” of the cast iron part the tub rests on (north south east and west) it’s basically the same method you’re showing but without any risk of damage.

I’ll use it! Thanks for the tip!

Notice that the collar (you removed by hammering up on) has a slot in it. Tap a flat blade screwdriver tip in that slot, and it will slightly open the collar enough that the collar will come off without any added force.

That is a smart idea. Also you can buy small inflatable air bags at harbor freight that would slide under the agitator and inflate, either two or four. They seem to have quite a bit of "push" to them and are inexpensive. What was the other tool for?
@HarperandKnowles3 ай бұрын
I haven’t had much luck with those air bags. The other tool is for straightening bent spin baskets. Check out my previous video to see how that works. Thanks for watching!

I have an early 2000's Kenmore 70 that mom bought new. Recently it acquired a squeal when it almost quit spinning. Well last week it didn't sling the water out on the spin cycle and I tore it down. I found the circlip for the drive tube down in the spin clutch under the spring. It was scraping on the housing making the squeal. The bottom of the drive tube bushing holds that circlip but the bottom of the bushing was gone so there was no groove for it. I didn't see any apparent damage to the clutch so I don't know how that happened. Have you ever replaced that bushing?
@HarperandKnowles3 ай бұрын
I’d just replace the spin tube. amzn.to/4eB1gU5. Thanks for watching!

Great idea. Does the air tool you used only use a hammering action and not spin?
@HarperandKnowles3 ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s an air hammer!

That spanner wrench you have seems to be a very good one. Where did you get it? I see them on ebay but don't know the quality or if they may even be made of aluminum.

That is one Mr. Harper gave me. He had it for years.

Is that the same thing as a wash plate? If so it works very well! Just be sure you are applying a steady upward pull on the plate or the transmission bolts underneath are removed. You can damage those transmissions if you hammer the shaft without the pull on the plate.
