Jim, loved watching you turn the little ugly duckling into a beautiful swan. And I like that you chose leaving the angled trunk. I like wind swept looking plants. I love shopping "death row" clearance plants and nurturing them back to life. So much satisfaction in rescuing these orphans. Thank you for discussing examining the roots. It was very helpful. I bought 5 mugo pines on deep discount. But when I got them home, I discovered the roots were all entirely black. In spite of all my efforts they were to far gone.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this video, Jim. I shop Lowe's clearance perpetually and am so thrilled always to find a shrub like this that will look good all year. Showing your viewers how to take a clearance plant and create a plant that will be a centerpiece specimen for years is so helpful and so appreciated! Loved the way you pruned it. I would have planted it as you did as the centerpiece in your container... but it might have looked good planted to one side of your rectangular container and left it to look windswept--perhaps for a more Asian or more contemporary/modernist look.

@@P_Belle they're ALL making room for Christmas trees, good profit margin on those. Especially since many will have to buy another BEFORE Christmas. Cut trees just don't look good after over a month! What annoys me is that many of us, especially in the south, are still actively planting. Home Depot had almost NO soil amendments, few containers & VERY few plants. Garden Center NOT tree lot, grrr
