The motor is programmed to always open when the battery is low. If not you can always just go down when the mailman comes and open it from the back since you get a notification with the motion sensor.

I set it to always unlock when the battery is low, it uses a cr123 battery so they last like half a year. You also can always ask the mailman for help.
