This may be an old video, but stay tuned for more armor-making videos! I've been building a workshop closer to where I live, so the armoring should become more prolific. Along with the associated videos, of course :)

Hey there Living Manuscript. I was just wondering if there was any way we could get a good look at your old bassinet and visor set up from back when. I have always been curious about that visor as well as the scale aventail you made. Hope all is well, and thank you for all the sweet videos.

Great to have you back! How would you describe the technique you're doing with the cross peen hammer to add some curve near the edge? Do you have a concave surface on part of your anvil that you do that on?
@LivingManuscript Жыл бұрын
Most of the cross-peen work can be done on a flat anvil, the railroad tie I was using is simply a better anvil than my actual anvil :) The idea is that the cross-peen will compress the metal and so stretch it in a predictable way. Although it will cost a little thickness of material, the additional shaping of the overall piece will be stronger anyway

Great vid, what kind of steel would you recommend for a novice blacksmith trying to dabble into the art of armor making?

how thick is your steel?
@LivingManuscript10 ай бұрын
These were 16 gauge (1.5mm?) Though historically armor for the arms could get even thinner
@latestagelarper10 ай бұрын
@@LivingManuscript i know and in other areas its been discovered to be up to 6mm thick
