Is it possible to make a Warhammer 40k video with little to no human creative input? The answer is yes, apparently. Welcome to the dystopian future of KZbin wargaming content. #warhammer #wargammer40k #wargaming

What was awful about that sample video was that it was entertaining enough for a background video. Not to mention the fact that as someone who has never played any edition of 40k, I could take the content as true. It is terrifying to think of the ramifications of content like this outside of the comparatively silly space of our hobby. Merry Christmas, thanks for pushing toy soldiers and rolling dice, and all around being the best wargaming channel on this platform! I’m hoping Santa brings me Devilry Afoot because of Oldhammered. lol

Here's my main question: just how close was that script to reality? I.E. how much of it was making stuff up since it barely understands what words are, much less Warhammer. No seriously, all AI does is "A follows B 95% of the time", it's just really good at figuring out patterns in words and relationships between words.
@criticalcommenterАй бұрын
Isn't that what you do too?
@paulsheldon8838Ай бұрын
@@criticalcommenter No, you don't have to show a child 25,000 examples of an orange for it to understand what is an orange.
@criticalcommenterАй бұрын
@@paulsheldon8838 kind of do. A child might learn a bit faster initially but AI learns much faster after that. Let me guess, you're religious?
@KnTenshi2Ай бұрын
@@criticalcommenter Nope, because it has no understanding of the real world - only the text it has been fed. "Training" is just updating scalar values to an insanely complicated and nested Matrix Multiplication algorithm. And running it is just executing said Matrix Multiplication (iteratively, feeding the output back into the input for as long as you want, but nothing changes internally). This is quite different from our generalized meatsacks that evolved to handle complex input and output in a very different manner (involving spacial and temporal chemical interactions).
@criticalcommenterАй бұрын
@@KnTenshi2 So we aren't good at figuring out patterns and relationships between words? We don't think "B follows A 95% of the time"?

Old Hammered - I went to art school for media arts and animation. They basically wanted me to adhere to this AI impromptu speed art. I couldn’t do it. My eyes aren’t capable of loving pixels. So my 2d pencil animation and my basic sculpting and imagination had to do. I need physical hands on artistic mediums. That’s just the kind of artist I am. If you unplug a computer you have nothing. Make it yourself- immortalizing. Videos are great memory makers, not friends.

Definitely not a fan of AI generation, save in spaces where it's being used as an accessibility tool. I remember seeing a channel by a guy with a stutter who uses AI voice generation to replicate his own voice--it was honestly really cool to see, even if I still have trepidations about the ethics of AI software training (for all the usual reasons). That said, I'm an artist. I watch videos and search images because I want to experience art. AI removes much of the human aspect from the artistic process, which makes it fundamentally less enjoyable to me. I vastly prefer a messy product made by human hands than a concise product made by a machine. Though on a related note, I'd be curious to hear how your opinion on AI image generation has changed. I recall that you'd changed your logo to what appeared to be an AI image a while back, then changed it back to the older (and, in my opinion, superior) version. I'd be interested to know what spurred your decision, both in initially using AI images and then switching back? Not trying to cast asperity on you, to be clear, just genuinely curious. I know I was interested in the stuff back in the day, and mostly turned when the whole "AI is Theft" movement started. These days, I'm mostly concerned about the artistic merit of the matter, and how AI tends to diminish the quality of artwork (whether it be illustrations or KZbin videos).
@hauntswargamingАй бұрын
I feel your pain. It's looking like KZbin will become less worth it over time unless you're running an ai video farm. We're already at the point where it can be indistinguishable from reality. Then on top of that the labor market is becoming harder to navigate because every company is replacing workers with ai systems.

Very creepy and weird. The uncanny valley is evident. I’m sure that it will be very common with creators using it because of its ease and novelty but it’ll soon wear off. It reminds me of when microwaves became cheap enough for everyone to buy and we were all trying out recipes and cooking everything just to see what happens. Now it’s associated with ease and speed and less quality. It’ll be the same with this

As a writer, I'm also worried about the growing amount of text AI is generating, even in fiction! It's troubling from both professional and human spirit aspects. @4:43 I do like that yeti in power armor the AI came up with. That's pretty neat. @7:28 So there are two 4's (at least) on the middle dice and a 7 on the one on the right. I don't think those are tournament legal.

I've started blocking IA generated videos of all kinds. I find it personally insulting to creators when the creative process of the work is turned more into a mad lips styled guessing game than an actual fun journey. I think the idea of making money by just popping some AI trash video but having no real energy expanded is going to cause a lot of damage to KZbin and end up killing a lot of hobby channels off of the don't wise up to the fact that they will get swarmed with content that no one watches. Basically a Facebook event.

I posted a comment with a bunch of timestamps for suspicious moments now I dont see it anymore. It's mainly at 0:55 if you want to have a look. AI mentioning comments seem to be getting removed including comments I responded to taking about it being AI. I also just find it strange no one is talking about it. The good news that need be kept in mind here is that all this dystopian tech is ruinously expensive and loses money to them every time it’s used. And as they consume more and more training data, tech gets more expensive to run, not cheaper. It’s being propped up by investor hypefor the moment, as their own models cannot even remotely turn any profit. They are desperately trying to find some way to be financially viable before the investors start getting cold feet, and unless there’s some colossal breakthrough in the immediate future, time rapidly is running out.

2:25 Another problem with AI narration tools is half the time, their pronunciation is either wrong, or inconsistent, or both. I'm half distracted by the weird AI narration in the test video that fluctuates between different levels of Scottish and American... The stunty Space Marines at 7:35 are kinda cute, and the novelty dice are fascinating! Yeah, as interesting as the concept is, it looked kinda pretty if you didn't look too close... but even the script sounded like a generic KZbin listicle. I can appreciate the idea of using AI to maybe help with prompts, but as a semi-Luddite creative myself, I just couldn't bring myself to pump out "work" that I barely had any hand in creating. Maybe it'd pay to sell my scruples a little more cheaply, but... 😜

There are some well done AI channels but they require actual work, Creative input, Corrections, teaching it about the subject, and most importantly the actual video can NOT be AI generated. you still must actually edit the audio and visuals like you would a normal video. I wouldn’t be too worries about it. I mean, sure, society as a whole is doomed where AI is concerned and how much we’re willing to give up. But at least within the hobbying world, I think there is a distinct point of diminishing returns with AI. Sure, there is some nice novelty, but I find it wears off extremely quickly. After the first few AI, it gets boring quick. I’d much rather see hand generated personal content so I think AI won’t overtake anything.
