I used to always use a liner but now as I have permeanant totes I decided to go with black vinyl and wrap the bottom and around 5" up the sides as I like to do a 3.5"...even 4" final depth to allow the spawn room to breathe and spread downwards establishing a kinda root system 🍄

an easier way is mist the sides with water and the plastic sticks to it. just fill it and trim the plastic along the substrate. put the filters on after

I have a question in one of your other videos I think you had mentioned that you want the liner to be as tall as the substrate is. Is it okay if the liner is taller than the substrate in the bottom of the tub? If not how do I calculate how tall to make the liner? I'm making substrate for a 44 quart monotub.

Ive been doing like a 3-4 inch border kinda... i use 26 inch by 19 inch for the whole sheet and then make the liner from there. You can make it bigger to make the edges taller.

@@BoomerShroomer ok good deal I use smaller tubs and have many of them all 20qt and a couple 30qt but I made some liners last night and they turned out alright the tubs I use have kind of a ridge on the inside under the handle so I’m guessing that’s why they fit funny but once filled with sub they should be fine.

My question is, when using this method with the 2 inch flap, how much grain and how much substrate are you using per tub? I am going to use or am planning to use 3lb grain/5lb substrate. The substrate shrinks as it colonizes. That would leave a gap around the edges for light to get in and you'll get side pins. With the liner inside, the substrate will pull it and help keep the side light hitting it
