I typically make a pillow case without quilting the fabric. Saw a pillow that the creator quilted the fabric and loved the look. Almost ready to assemble & so glad I watched your video. Going to put binding on envelope opening! Great tip to avoid bulk. Thank you.

Thank you for the tutorial. I’m working on a horizontal pillow (as your flag is). I hadn’t even thought to make the flaps of the envelope back run vertically. Duh! That’s going to be so much easier. Thanks!!!

If you take 1 or 2 stitches on the diagonal on the corners you will get a really nice sharp corner and gives you a little more room there.

Great tutorial. Love this pillow! So much so that I followed the links to get the PDF to make one. I'm not sure whose pattern it is but I believe there is a mistake in the instructions. In the second step, the patterns says: "With right sides together, place two matching navy squares in opposite corners of a 4¼” x 4¼” navy square as shown. " I believe it should instead say, 'place two matching cream squares'. (The ones with the diagonal lines drawn on in step one.) Just thought I'd mention this for anyone else making the pillow. I followed the instructions, using navy squares and had to redo that bit. If I wasn't a newbie, I would have caught that before making the boo-boo, I think. Live and learn!

I have purchased an 18x18 pillow from. I have stitched a piece of Sashieko measuring about 13x13. Do I just need to make this piece measure 18x18 and cut backing pieces 18x24 or so for overlap?

This is awesome! I have pillows that really need a new “look” on them - now I can make multiple covers and switch them out whenever I want to - thank you - this is really great - and I like how you explain as you go. Thank you

Can you give me the me the measurements for a square pillow and include the size of back pieces??? I don’t know how to determine how much overlap the back pieces should have. Carey

To avoid losing the quality of the star and the stripes, adding about a two inch border to the face of the pillow case, before sewing on the backing, would help.

Good tutorial. One question, I see that you (as well as other quilters I have watched) use steam when pressing on your wool mat. My wool mat instructions said not to use steam because it could break down the mat. Have you found this to be a problem? Thanks, Sherri.
