Thank you! This was a mother and fathers gift to their son who just graduated to become a firefighter. It made this build that much better!

Hi Edgar new subscriber here and I have learned a ton from your channel. Can you tell me how long it takes you to carve this flag and how much sanding you have to do .I’m running a shapeoko 5pro and not sure if it’s me or the machine but it takes quite a while and seems like it should be doing a cleaner job. Thanks for any info.

Thanks Robert for checking out the channel!! I would say a small one (13x24) would take about 30 mins of carve time. Usually about 8 mins on stars and 20ish mins on stripes and logo. Not including pre carve work (staining/drying) or post carve work (sealing/drying/touch ups) I stopped worrying about going faster though. I made more mistakes and lost money having to buy more material. I’ll just let the machine take its time and get it done right the first time. It’s still faster than the dremel 😀

Do you buy the wood as one piece or glue it together??? Nice work great advise

I like to use edge glued panels from Lowe’s. They’re usually flat enough to carve from the get go and they’re a lot faster to pick out than using 1x boards. I get the ones wrapped in plastic. Here’s a video I made comparing the panels vs the 1x boards. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4HRqGqNbK6MecU

What type of paint do you prefer to use when you do the red/blue lines on your flags?

Hey Justin, I use Behr Mega Blue or Behr Tanzanite. Currently using tanzanite and have been happy with it. It’s just a bit darker than Mega Blue. Personally, I might stick with Tanzanite. For red, I use Behr Flirt Alert! I ge these mixed at HD. A small sample size goes a long way for me.
