@@cedric3973 Thank you! Not much tools needed, you just need a jar, some small stones/pebbles for the first layer and the soil and plants and moss. I just put them in by hand. A plant spray you can use to spray some water in the jar before closing it could come in handy. You might need a small shovel to get the soil but that is about it. Good luck!

@@HomemadeEcosystems thank you so much, I have been enjoying the content and I will let you know how it goes. Theres a certain flower in the area I want to preserve and this would be fantastic for it. I'll keep you updated. I put in my request last week for it so hope I get a fast reply. Also rhanks for the reply and input. My friend has a very large pickling jar thats about 8 litera in size I think would be perfect. Was youra about 3 liters or so in size?

First time viewer with a million questions. What sort of upkeep does this need? Are there any plants or animals that you have to avoid? How many isopods do you need and how do you ensure they're not too closely related? How much sunlight does this need? Which video of yours that I haven't watched (yet) has the answers?
@HomemadeEcosystems2 жыл бұрын
Hi, welcome! This does not need upkeep, I made this and haven't done anything since. The best plants are plants that love a moist environment but if you put a plant that doesn't like a terrarium it will just die doesn't really matter. You can put in a few isopods. They can be related that is not a problem. These things require a lot of sunlight but not direct sunlight because they overheat easily so I would place them on a window sill out of direct sunlight. This video answers some questions: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i37VgXyjjqyrnNE but not all. I also recommend other channels like worcesters terrariums and jartopia for more tips.

You must keep it under artificial light? Won't sunlight destroy it?

Don't you spray water in it when you make it. Btw great job keep it up & share with us.
@HomemadeEcosystems3 жыл бұрын
I didn't spray water in this one because the soil was already very wet. But if the soil is dry it is indeed better to spray some water in it before closure! Thank you! I'm working on a new video about a tropical terrarium ;)

it's not sealed at all. it's just some stuff in a vase. the plastic is completely permeable to gasses.
@HomemadeEcosystems3 жыл бұрын
I'm going to try to close it of with cork. The first two - three weeks it is better to not close it of completely because most mold form in that time period and that way you can adjust the moisture level.

I'm not putting any large animals in there.. there are only a few insects that naturally occur in the soil and don't have a natural habitat that is much bigger than this jar so I think i'm good 😅
