I use"fresh" turmeric and ginger (in combination with a spoon of coconut oil and lemon and apple vinegar in my cup (no cooking). I bring the water+ginger+turmeric+pepper to boiling point and then drink it. I don't strain it. Is there a reason why it is strained and why it has to "simmer" for 10 minutes?

I do not use oil and have heard that to receive the most benefits you need to add oil. Can you add a small amount of avocado instead?

The spices are what makes the drink to me. You have to play around with different milks. Some milks are thin/thick. I use ground vanilla, ceylon cinnamon. I prefer ground ginger to the fresh. If I'm in the mood for heat I will put in a pinch of cayenne. Some experts say black pepper is needed. They don't tell you pepper is an irritant. I just use common sense.

Why strain ginger? At the very least it's fiber?
@suni.L3 жыл бұрын
If you perfer a chunky drink don't strain. The essence of the ginger is what's needed.

I am surprised that Dr. Weil didn't do research. This recipe should never be made with coconut milk. Whole, boiled cow's milk is the only milk that should be used. Sorry, vegans. This medicine is not for you. It is never made with coconut milk in Asia, and it is not even called golden milk in Asia. You can make it with whatever milk you want, I guess, but coconut milk will reverse any of the benefits you want from the other ingredients. In fact, it's pretty offensive that a few western bloggers take a medicinal drink that has existed for 5,000 years and think they can change it. Did they spend 5,000 years studying the ingredients too?

Jill is making big assumptions (Weil didn't research) as well as big assertions (coconut milk will reverse any benefits...), but I'd suggest politely that she provide some info, facts, references (for gods sake something...) to back up her ferocious claims.

Still not true. You can use organic coconut milk and oil in this drink.
