How do you choose the chords that sound good together in a progression
@lukafi6 жыл бұрын
J.A.V just lay down a chord and then keep playing around until you find a chord that fits the melody in your head.. and you have to know what type of progression you want.. example would be the melody your thinking of starts low then pretty high etc. You have to know what you want to write

Game not gonna lie, I was suspicious at first.. Your videos came up as recommended on my KZbin feed about a year ago and I thought to myself, "how can this random guy on KZbin with only 500k subscribers teach me better than all these other music colleges I wanted to go to.." Literally after watching two of your videos I knew instantly what I thought was wrong. You're changing my life to this day and I want to thank you for that.

I think the steps between the notes are easier to remember as a pattern: Minor: x-3-4 Minor 7th: x-3-4-3 Dimished: x-3-3 Major: x-4-3 Major 7th: x-4-3-4 Augmented: x-4-4 etc.

Diminished chords are found in every major and minor scale. In major chords, diminished chords are the last chords before the next octave begins. In minor chords, diminished chords are found near the beginning (and in the case of the harmonic minor scales, near the end, also).

I love your videos. I majored in theory and compo. Now I teach private lessons. Back in the day when I was in university I learned this system and used it but my professors advised against it for not good reason AND punished me for it. Of course this is what I teach my students because it cuts teaching chord structural building by 2/3. Plus it applies everywhere in every key. SO AWESOME! Thanks man for sharing

Wow, this Has really helped me. Ive been playing piano for 9 years now, i know all scales, minor/major, but Ive always had trouble making music because it never really sounded good, but after watching this Ive created a nice little tune, and im excited to Create some chill lo-fi tunes in FLstudio, thanks!
@RobbieHatley7 жыл бұрын
Yep, that works, because of the nature of the modern 12-tone equally-tempered scale, and because of logarithms: fixed number of keys between two pitches = fixed ratio of pitches. Or to phrase it mathematically, if log(B) - log(A) = log(D) - log(C), then D/C = B/A. (Slide rules work because of this same principle, btw.) And it also works for pianists and guitarists, not just composers and FL-Studio-ists. On keyboard, just run your left hand up and down the keyboard, just forward of the tips of the black keys, without changing the spacing between your fingers, and you'll play nothing but 0-4-7 major chords. To make minor chords, just move your second finger one notch to the left, freeze your hand in that position, then run left hand up and down, and you get minor chords. (Works because distance between fingers is exactly equal to the chord codes you give.) On guitar, same thing really: once you have fingers configured for a particular chord (say maj-aug), just move hand up and down fingerboard to transpose it to any key. Works for same reason.
