Thanks for the video! One small tip, when I make jerky I like to throw the thawed loin back in the freezer for an hour or so. Makes the slicing with a very sharp knife a little easier. Watch your fingers! A fishing filet glove to hold the cut of meat and protect your digits is helpful as well.

Not wanting to narrow the "Dad Got This" universe to just dads (as all will enjoy these) but as a dad and ardent foodie I love this guy and his videos. He cooks the food I'm interested in and presents it in a way that keeps me engaged and chuckling throughout. I too love the Ninja Woodfire Grill and will continue to follow your lead on what to try out next! I'm leaving now to get some beef to cook me up some of my own jerky this weekend!

So excited to make my own jerky!!! Interesting you had them so thick! I'll have to test with varying thickness to find the best tasting! And so many marinades to try it with! Another option I'm thinking is to use BBQ sauce like a Jack Daniels sweet whisky but water it down ever so slightly first to allow it to soak into the meat better! And maybe a little bit of cayenne pepper if I want them to be spicy at all! Exciting times ahead 😅😋

I used chef john from food wishes jerky marinade recipe on some bottom round and let it sit for a whole day. then the next morning I dehydrated it at 150F on my ninja XL for 6 1/2-7 hours with mesquite wood pellets from pitboss. I refilled one time and reignited halfway through. And I used the optional smoking rack from ninja to give my meat extra smoke coverage. taste so good.

That sounds fantastic. Did you slice it thin? I think I need to slice it thinner.

@@DadGotThis I bought it pre sliced thin medallions at costco. then cut it into three long strips per piece. I made maybe 16 or so strips of beef. costed like 4.80 a pound or something. it was thickish like what you would see at a meat store as opposed to jacklinks or something smaller like that.

I like tender moist jerky, what kind of meat cut and temp/time should I aim for? We just got our woodfire xl yesterday and we're excited to pull it out & fire it up.
@DadGotThis
@DadGotThis 7 ай бұрын
You are going to want a cut with more intramuscular fat. Something like a brisket of a tri tip. Slice it thicker and I have heard you can add a small cup of water inside when dehydration is going. Never tried that tough. You want to be careful to not have TOO MUCH moisture as mold can grow. If the beef is not dehydrated enough it won’t last as long.

I bought a woodfire XL from QVC. This model looks exactly the original woodfire grill with the round knob on the left but does NOT include a dehydrate option. Only grill, smoke, air fry and bake. But, I can set any temp I want under the smoke option. Should I be able to make beef jerky with the temp setting of 170 degrees or so? What does the dehydrate option do on the other grills that function differently? Simply setting the correct temp and time would seem to work fine? I am unable to find any information regarding Jerky on this model.
@DadGotThis
@DadGotThis Ай бұрын
To make jerky you cook it to 165f not at 165f. For dehydrate you need to maintain a super low temp, like 135f or 145f while the unit moves the air around it. What is the lowest temp your will go to, most likely on smoke?

If you plan on doing that it would “probably” be ok but it would be safer to reserve some marinade that you don’t put on the meat for that.

Good afternoon, I would like to know how many rounds of pellets are added to a roast.
@DadGotThis
@DadGotThis Жыл бұрын
I can't say for sure because it has really varied for me depending on the pellet, the temperature outside, the humidity ect. It can range from burning through a hopper (55g) in 30 minutes to going upwords of 3 hours before needing a refill.
