Thanks so much for this video, it was super helpful! What do you do it you want to use scrap fabric or thrifted fabric that no longer has a clear selvedge? How much does it matter if the bias grain is a little bit off?

Thanks for the tutorial. Could you add comments on the difficulties on making binding bias from looser weave fabrics, as well as well-behaved cotton. Would you suggest using spray starch to stabilise the fabric?

Hi Carol! If you're using something like viscose and having trouble with it being slippy or fraying, I think using spray starch is a great idea. But the fabric does still need to stretch on the bias slightly, so you don't want to make it too stable. If possible/if the binding is hidden, we would recommend sticking with something like a lawn or poplin so it's easier to work with. Abi x

I wonder if stretch interfacing would work? I’ve used it before.

I’ve bought a bias bond no maker but can’t get it to work, it just comes out folded on one side. What am I doing wrong?
@lyleneander210011 ай бұрын
It takes a while to work out. Notice the fabric goes into the device and folds up on the sides as well as flat. That means your fabric must be wide enough but not too wide. Use the awl to draw the fabric through the narrow aperture and iron as you draw it out. Use ironing aid on the fabric before you start and go slowly. It took me a while but starting at the right width is really important.

How wide in inches did you cut the strips?
@TillyButtons3 жыл бұрын
Here I'm making 12mm (1/2 inch) bias binding, my strips are approx 24mm (1inch)

It's always double what you want the final binding to be. This is mentioned in the video at about 1:35 minutes.
